The D-Max is supposed to have soft suspension for a pickup, which may give a more car-like ride.

Automatic transmission Pros: Easy to use in city traffic and they don't require much of a learning curve.

Cons: More expensive to purchase/maintain, extra weight for the vehicle, less fuel mileage, less control over the RPM's, cannot be started by popping the clutch (if the battery is too low for the starting motor), acceleration is usually less and they also tend to have shorter service lives than manual transmissions. Also, standard automatics (not CVT's) sometimes cannot decide which gear ratio to engage in certain driving situations and will jump back and forth. Engine torubles can also affect the automatic's performance giving on the false impression of transmission problems: On manuals, there is a very rigid connection between the engine and the rest of the drivetrain, whereas on automatics, the torque converter/ATF are not a solid connection.

Hi

I suggest you look back as read the following post :- Toyota Hilux Is Highly Dangerous According To The Swedish Motoring Magazine "teknikens Värld" .

It was enough to help me decide to buy a D-max 3.0L VGS 4x4 Auto. Had it a few weeks now and am very pleased with the ride/fuel consumption/handling. Many accesories come as standard that are extra's or not available on the Vigo. All this for LESS money here in Thailand :D

I've check trough the website and feel shock to know about this.. :o .. BTW what is FC for your D-max 3.0 Auto interm of Km/Litre?

after knowing that the triton has passed the test.. now i thinking of the Mitsubishi Triton 2.5 manual :D ... compare with dmax 3.0 which is powerfull...? i know that dmax 3.0 has 136ps @ 3400 rpm and triton 2.5 has 136ps @ 3500.... does this make any difference interm of acceleration? FC? which is better... Vigo is tottaly out for me... bye-bye vigo..

Triton in that test had Electronic Stability Control which is not available on Thai models.

Isuzus have their own downsides. From observing how they behave on the road it appears their engines seriously lose power after a couple of years, even 3l ones, and expect black smoke coming out the exhaust when you accelerate, but probably not from the current common-rail engine.

High level of noise is a common complaint about Isuzus, too.

Hi jdadel0880

For reason prev mentioned, I am biased towards the D-Max BUT I have researched all models and believe the Isuzu engine is more technically refined compared to the other (older) engines. The VGS in my truck is incredibly quiet but then again I always drive with the (standard) Kenwood DVD player on load!! :D

Not to sure about exact FC and NO onboard car computers can be trusted but I think Im getting around 11Km/Litre. I am used to many high end fast western cars but believe my new wheels are plenty quick enough FOR A TRUCK.

I suggest a few test drives and if your quick you may see one of the limited edition D-Max GT's like mine. I LOVE IT!!!

If Toyota pickups in Thailand were built to the same quality standard as Toyota pickups in America, I wouldn't have even considered buying anything but a Toyota. Sadly they are not, and I've heard story after story from people I know of "problems". Don't know much about the Mitsubishi except it has a goofy design and would appear to only about 4/5th's the size of a regular pickup (which here in Thailand is only 2/3 rds the size of a real pickup.

I bought a 4DR4WD DMAX 4 years ago. I have never had a mechanical problem with it save for a clutch replacement (175k kms). I'm off road every day and it has never got me stuck except for the time I slid into a rice paddy. That incident made me feel better about what I had previously thought was not high enough ground clearance for a 4x4. I think a taller truck would have rolled over. The only knock I have on it is the suspension seems to be setup for a smooth ride and is a little soft for offroad use.
