SwaziBird
Received this note which I thought worth passing on. Cannot vouch for it's accuracy but it seems like a precaution we could all consider. Never, ever answer a cell phone while it is being RECHARGED!! A few days ago, a person was recharging his cell phone at home. Just at that time a call Came in and he answered it with the instrument still connected to the outlet. After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the ground with a heavy thud. His parents rushed to the room only to find him unconscious, with a weak heartbeat and burnt fingers. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was pronounce dead on arrival. Cell phones are a very useful modern invention. However, we must be aware that it can also be an instrument of death ! Never use the cell phone while it is hooked to the electrical outlet! FORWARD THIS TO THE PEOPLE THAT MATTER IN YOUR LIFE. Cheers
Blinky Bill
With the billion or so mobile phones that have been sold around the world over the years, I am sure most of them have been answered whilst on charge. The charging voltage and current is mininal, my Nokia N81 uses 5 volts DC and 80 milliamps. I reckon the authorities might have something to say if there were any truth to the danger you warn of. Sounds like your warning is a load of crap and you have fallen victim to one of the many inane fear chain mails let that circulate on the internet. With a little investigating this hoax warning has been circulation since 2005. See this Edited January 18, 2008 by Blinky Bill

Cheers After a few seconds.................the young man was thrown to the ground with a heavy thud Looks like an item from a tabloid, with all the sensational statements. 220 volts AC into a charger with a double insulated transformer and rectifier with a 3 volt DC output doesn't kill people. Also insulated circuit boards in the phone. After an extensive web search, no deaths were found from being electrocuted by your hand phone. Many thousands have been killed while using their phones, but it was usually the tree they hit that did the damage, and not the phone. Your source please? wjmark
Most chargers don't use double insulated transformers. They use switching technology - no transformers - that is why they are so light nowadays. But still pretty safe, I reckon

Donnyboy
just slightly off topic, why do they ban cellphone use on the petrol station forecourt? possible static electricity from the phone igniting petrol vapours? or terminals of the phone battery doing the same? just wondered.
