I would rather not give out my make and model number for security reasons. No offense.

I think your perfectly safe telling us the make (Sony, Dell, HP etc) and the model number (or specifications, if you prefer) I'n fact i'm only really interested in the CPU, RAM and GFX card.

I am currently looking forward to both Warhammer and Age of Conan, I did my pre-order with Age of Conan just recently online.

I will say though, no MMO since EQ has equaled the experiance I had when EQ first launched. No other MMO has had the mature, organized player base that I experianced in EQ. Nor is a game really as massive as the game got, content wise. (which isnt necesarrily a good thing)

-Jim

When is Conan due out? I've signed up for the Warhammer beta but not got an invite yet.

EQ2 was good... I liked the system, the skills etc. I will always have a soft spot for EQ as it was my first real MMO

They just recently delayed it one month, the new releasedate is May 20th, I have a feeling this one will stick though. Friends that are beta testing it say its coming together quite well.

Hi Shuddee,

Yeah that laptop isn't capable of playing anything but the most simplest of 3D games, the Mobile Intel GFX chips are not very powerful and wont support most of the newer games. You have just enough RAM to cover the base operating system but no where near enough for most modern games and the processor is also lacking.

Second life isnt a graphic intensive game such as the likes of World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online or Pirates of the Burning Sea. So if your looking to play games your seriously going to need to upgrade. Bottom line, that Laptop is ok for web/email etc and possible some of the MS Office applications, but anything that requires any serious processing this laptop will let you down.

Hahaha i think its a bit like the first love. I remember when I played the DAoC beta and it just freaked me out. It was so crazy for me to run around in this huge world and interact with other people while doing my quests. The beta was the only game I played so much that I set my alarm to sleep less to play more.

I liked DAoC, i fell in with a hardcore German guild when i played at release, ended up with the first lvl50 Scout on the server at the time. Really good fun sniping away at the lower levels, i think i managed something like 25 one-shot kills in a row before i got caught and slaughtered.

RvR was great fun, bit of a lag-fest tho. I remember some excellent sieges with 50 or so defenders verses several hundred attackers (i was a defender) took hours of defense before we finally got beaten and lost the fort, and our first relic raid, with my heart pounding out of my chest as im running for one of our forts, relic in hand being chased by 50 or so midgard trolls/kobolds... i think it took me an hour for the adrenaline to die down enough for me to stop sweating!! Awesome fun!

Please post if anyone hears about asian servers for the next two big games (World of Warhammer, Age of Conan).

Some days ago I received a WAR newsletter especially for asia so this might be a good sign already even though to have servers nearby for AoC would be way more important because of the real time combat system.

I played WoW til my ping started hitting 26,000ms. In the beginning it was from 500 to 700ms though on weekends there could be problems - like at the end of an instance with a group I disconnect then reconnect to see the tank getting killed and cursing me - lol - this happened way too many times. I have been hesitant to get a new ISP because there is no guarantee it will be any better though I should probably talk to people in my building to see how their service is.

When I was back in the USA visiting I played WoW with ping rates of like 93ms on neighbor's WiFi. I maxxed out the settings and it was awesome. Then I returned to Thailand where I would rather be and had to suffer w/o WoW. At least the weather is nice most of the time.

I too look forward to Warhammer and Age of Conan once I get a rig.

Been playing Age Of Conan for past few days now - So far so great!

Game is still a tad buggy but it's only been out for a few weeks and will improve just like every other MMO

Got the cheapest Intel quad core with 4gb ram and geforce 8800 and its a smooth 60fps at 1600x1000 (1920x1280 bit stuttery)

Also it's playable on my Sony Penryn laptop with 2gb ram and geforce 8400M (20-30fps) but have to play on low graphic settings so it looks more like WOW (1280x720)

Are you all playing from Thailand?

Is is playable on a european server (latency?) ?

I'm curious because I'm playing Age of Conan (nice game) from my home country and as I will certainly move to Thailand around end of year, i would like to know if i will be able to continue playing.

Thanks

:o

Playing from within Thailand presents its own set of challenges, but overall yes it is possible to play from within Thailand, the latency (avg 300-400) makes PvP difficult, but if you plan to mainly play PvE then your fine. PvP is doable, and as long as you know your characters capabilities and your opponents capabilities you can usually do "quite" well. :o

I just read in the other thread that there are quiet a few MMORPG players around. I also played DAoC, Anarchy Online, Horizons and WoW.

It would be nice to know who plays what and maybe form a small guild for some of the upcoming great MMORPGs. Warhammer Online for example will be awesome for sure.

A little bit about it:

- It is produced by Mythic the same Mythic that came up with Dark Ages of Camelot.

- It will have a lot of open world warfare and you can actually invade cities of enemies (other Realms on the same server)

- You can level your character however you want. That means you can play non stop PvP (Player vs Player) or just play against scripted enemies. Both will advance your character

- The quests look awesome. They have a new and unique questing system that rocks...

More about it here:

Any other MMORPGs you guys play or are looking forward to play?

I played WoW for a long time, but quit shortly after coming to Thailand due to the latency.

I currently play Warhammer beta and will be buying it at release.

Take what you will from those two statements.. :o (NDA covers everything else)

Mythic stated recently that they will have both Australian and US based servers at release. The ping from Thailand to Australia doesn't seem much better than it is to the US though, and refer to my previous two statements if you're worried about latency. I'll be playing on their US servers.

Either way, it would definitely be nice to play with more expats at release (or if any others are in beta currently) at least on the same server, if not in the same guild. My Thai wife and I (Yes, she plays too :D ) recently joined a pretty sweet mixed Oceanic/US guild called Mongbat. If any expats are interested in WAR, be sure to check them out (www.mongbat.com), we're having a blast with them.

Self confessed, recently reformed MMORPG addict reporting in.

Ultima Online - 2 Years

JumpGate - 4 Years

DAOC - 1 Year

Earth & Beyond - 1 Year

Star Wars Galaxies - 3 Years

Wow - 2 Years

I have been clean now for over 500 days, it is quite something to have a life back!

In truth though, the MMO industry itself cured my addiction, every game out there is full of teenage carebears, with fast mouths, sitting safely behind the PVP switch. When I started out, if some punk gave you trouble, you cut him into little pieces, stole all his gear, and danced on his corpse. Fast forward a decade or so, and all I see is endless spam of Chuck Norris jokes and a whole generation of young people with dubious social skills.

What? Really? That's pretty disappointing to hear :D I thought that with Australian servers I'd finally have the opportunity to be on an equal playing field with the majority of the players and mayhaps even latency under 180, but it doesn't look to be the case once again.

Ah well, one day there will be an mmo that puts servers in Singapore. One day.

PotBS has an Auzzie server, but im not sure if your allowed to access it from outside of Australia. Also you would need an Auzzie mate to pick up the game for you. I know Warhammer online was considering Oceanic servers, but with there recent cutbacks i dont know if that is still the case.

I currently play Age of Conan, with a steady 300ms response time to the US. I'm playing on an Oceanic preferred server, with a very high population of Auzzies and Asians, so we are all in the same boat when it comes to PvP - but so far i haven't really noticed any issues with a 300ms latency.

Oh did they fix that latency spike thing? I haven't touched that game in 2 months because it was pretty much unplayable.

Yes they seemed to have fixed it, they never admitted to the problem or claimed a solution, but about 1 month ago my perma 10k lag changed to be the occasional lag spike lasting 5-10seconds (and everyone suffered at the same time - server side lag) - generally now the performance is much much better, i played yesterday and had two lag spikes over a 6hr period.

Now they just have to fix the bugs, balance the classes and add more content and we are sweet :o

Come back, give it a try

Ah awesome, finally!

Apparently my class got nerfed since I left (ToS), though I'm thinking of re-rolling on a PvP server anyway. I can't stand not attacking everything in sight.

Looks like the WAR servers are going to be located in Melbourne.

Doing a tracert for to GW3.MEL1.ALTER.NET gives you a good idea of what your latency to the OZ servers will be. The beta for the oceanic servers just started the last couple of days ago as well.

I pinged 180ms. With VPN tunneling it's possible to probably get as low as 150ms to Melbourne from Thailand. I'll be picking this game up :o

Me and my friends tried Age of Conan.... and shortly hurried back to WOW. It really offered nothing new that could keep my attention.... and the bugs made me hate it but I know they would eventually work those out. I'll be trying Warhammer Online when that comes out.

I dont know what people are talking about latency issues? I've been playing WOW from Thailand for a few years now and only sometimes have a problem at about 9 - 11pm at night. The rest of the time its fine for raiding, questing and pvp. I play on a U.S. low population pvp server though if that makes a difference.

IN CASE ANYONES INTERESTED:

Wow has just started a crazy new promotion for recruit a friend. If you sign up to play WOW from an official invitation email from a friend that is already playing ie. veteran player (must use the invitation email or the promo does not work) you get TRIPLE EXPERIENCE for quests and monster kills, the ability to grant a FREE level up to your friends lower level characters for every 2 levels you earn, the ability to summon your friend once an hour and vice versa and the friend who invited you gets a Zhevra mount and a free month of WOW. This means that if you join with the promo you level 3 times as fast and get to the end game content alot faster. You only get the triple experience when grouped with the veteran players similar levelled characters. So basically when you start at level 1 he has to start at level 1 and play with you if you want to take advantage of triple xp (I got lv 15 in a few hours). Or you could 2 box. I'm playing with my girlfriend now because of this deal.

It really depends on your neighbourhood..... I use true at 2 locations and it is fine for gaming except sometimes at peak hours (10 pm to midnight) then it can be too laggy to raid but that was not consistent. Also you get what you pay for (sorta) If you buy the cheapest package you will share it with more people, buy the best and you might not share it with anyone depending on your area.

Lag is also dependent on which server you are using. I opted for Nagrand, a "US" Oceanic PVE server which is mostly populated by Ozzies, lag is tolerable it peaks every now and then but even pvp is okay (not great you understand but okay). .
