Sure can, Singapore Airlines boarding pass stub also entitles you to ride on the City Tour bus, hopping on and off at you pleasure, for free.

See the tourist desk in the arrivals hall after clearing customs or else inside the airport terminal at an information desk

If you are at Changhi, go to one of the tourist info desks. They can line you up with a city tour etc. There is no need to go thru immigration with this option.

If u want to go on your own [ easy to do ] you will get a normal 3 month stamp.Plenty of info on places to go in the airport.

There is a left luggage place in the basement.

Anything over 5 hours between flights you can get a "transit pass" from Changi. There are no additional airport taxes to pay with this.

Make sure your luggage is checked right through, or it will be waiting in Changi when you're looking for it at the next stop.

What passports get you a 3 month chop? I thought most were only 30/14 days?

Singapore has one of the most (if not the most) liberal visa-free entry policies in the world. Even such countries as CIS (ex Soviet Union), Inida and PRC are eligible for a short-term visa at the airport. Citizens of most countries get 14/30 days (Thailand included). Immigration lines are super fast -- never >10 min wait for me, and usually <40 min from plane door to Orchard Road (downtown). Take that, Suvarnabhumi...

Even cooler thing is that the city is so small, and transportation so good that you can hit all the major sights in those 18 hours, either by taking a tour or even by yourself... and it won't even cost you much. :o They even give you a free map and guide (a very useful, succinct one) at the airport, at the tourist office right out of arrivals. If I were to choose a place for a 18h layover, Singapore would be on top of the list.

BTW, I'm not Singaporean, just duly impressed by my 3 brief visits there... now living there would be a whole different matter.

I am always given a 90 day visit pass. The stamp says Subject to Reg. 12[7] Immigration Regulations.

Last visit was November 07. I have a "farang passport" :o

I'm guessing u r a shackledragger - u should be getting that visa.

You can get the MRT downtown with a change or two to anywhere but unless really pressed for cash, just get a taxi. All on the meter and they speak english. Shopping is not that fabulous especially if you are tired but if you need something (I got some baby things in an afternoon), then it is OK. They have Marks and Spencer for stuff if you miss that.

Unless I really wanted to go into town, I'd look for one of the hotels and get some rest.

For a few hours head over to Terminal 3 and check out the new Hard Rock Cafe there for a few cocktails.....

Or if you want something more active or outdoors take a 5 min taxi ride down to East Coast Park and you can go roller blading or cycling or sunbathe on the beach...

Or just get a taxi (so cheap - much cheaper than songtaews!) and head into the city for shopping, eating, tourist mooching.

English is usually very good if you can excuse the "can -can" and the "lah" added to the end of every sentence. Some of the older taxi drivers can be a challenge but I did learn my lesson - I used to try and speak very slowly and clearly and they would be more confused than ever. Then I realised just speed up a little and loosen up your consanants and they get it!!
