February 6, 200818 yr Have to go British Embassy, Bangkok. Can anyone suggest the nearest decent hotel? Also, have to go to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chaeng Wattana Road, Laksi District, Bangkok. Have been told not to get a taxi because it's a long way from the British Embassy, but to go by skytrain and then get a bus or taxi. Anyone got any helpful comments?

Amari Boulevard (Sukhumvit, Soi 5) is within walking distance. There are many hotels in that area - so you'll get many people recommending 'favourites'. With regard to MoFA - I take a limo from the opposite side of the road to Amari. The Amari limo is much too expensive, but there is usually an old Volvo parked outside Foodland that is far more reasonable.

Soi 5 to the Embassy is some walk!!!!!!! I would suggest Conrad hotel on Wireless Road. As for getting to MFA, take a taxi. Its too much messing around getting BTS/Bus just to save 100 baht
February 6, 200818 yr The one across the road from the British Embassy was called the Holiday Mansion and it is now a pile of rubble! I always use the Swiss Park on Sukhumvit Soi 11 which costs me about 1100 baht a night including an excellent breakfast. Book through AsiaRooms.Com. The Skytrain from close to the Swiss Park to Ploenchit takes sixty seconds, and the walk from Ploenchit to the Consular entrance takes another 70 seconds.

Its too much messing around getting BTS/Bus just to save 100 baht It takes 10-15 minutes at the most. I did it twice in November. But as I have been known to walk from Suksabai Villa to Soi Zero (and back!) maybe I do overestimate other peoples capacity for a lingthy stroll. I regularly (daily) walk from Suksabai Villa to Tukcom and on to Krung Thai Bank, then to RGP or Carrefour. Then back, if I haven't done much shopping. Alternatively a visit to Tesco-Lotus and Outlet Mall breaks the day up. But currently I have a construction site 10km x 6km to supervise - and that is done by 4WD.
February 7, 200818 yr Center Point, Wireless. http://www.centrepoint.com/Locations/wireless_a.aspx It's right across the street on the other side of the Ploenchit Rd. from the UK embassy. Serviced apartment but you can stay from one night.
February 7, 200818 yr Get a taxi to Chaeng Wattana. You'll spend an extra 50p each way but save yourself a massive amount of hassle and probably save time as you can use the expressway from Wireless. You can stay at the Nai Lert Hotel. It's next to the embassy but it's quite luxurious so might be approx 100 quid a night.
February 7, 200818 yr Nai Lert Park is offering rooms on skoosh.com at 59 pounds for a double. That's what you want.

Amari Boulevard is $179/ night walk in rate (yes they quoted me in USD). that was in '06 so I'm sure it's over $200 now. on top of that, the amari aint so special, certainly not $200 a night special Edited February 7, 200818 yr by I Go With You
