Tourist visa length depends on the country of your passport.

Did they give you a tourist visa last week or a transit visa. I have heard of consulates giving out 30 day transit visas because they deny the 60 day tourist visa.

1. There is no Consulate in Kohn Kaen. Believe you are talking about Vientiane?

2. A tourist visa provides a 60 or 30 day stay depending on passport country - there has not been any change since November 2007.

3. Are you perhaps saying you are from a country allowed 30 day stay but on last entry received 60 days?

4. Or are you calling Immigration in Kohn Kaen a Consulate and talking about extension of stay. That would always be 30 days on a tourist visa entry if no suspicions raised.

5. We are not clear on what you are saying. Can you explain again. Thanks.

After reading back in various threads I find you obtained a 90 day entry after a visit to Laos (not 60 days) and that it was set to expire February 19th. Your non immigrant O visa expired in December so you currently have no visa.

Last time I went to Laos, reentered Thailand on 22 nov 2007, got extension untill 19 feb 08.

So what are you talking about 30 days? If you cross border/return? That would be correct. Or if you go to Vientiane and obtain a tourist visa (visit Consulate, pay for visa, return next day) you would be stamped into Thailand for 60 days and could then extend for 30 days at an Immigration office.

Judging from the thread title, he might be talking about a Lao tourist visa ?

Khon Kaen does have a Lao consulate, where Lao visas can be obtained, also Lao visas on arrival have changed mid last year from 15 to 30 days, but I didn't know that the same happened to Lao tourists visa obtained at embassies, I always thought they remained at 30 days.

Edit, the duration of VOA in Laos changed mid 2006 not mid 2007

I stay in Thailand on a year visa issued 29/12/06. 800K, 62 years old, holder of Belgian passport

Admitted in Thailand first time on this visa 08/01/07, in and out several times, every time before end of 3 month period.

Last time I left Thailand, went to Khon Kaen Lao consulate in november 2007 (yes there is one, this week I will post address and opening hours, staff always very helpful, for a few 100 hb extra you get visa immy -10 min-fee depends indeed on country), I got 60 days.

I left TH at Nongkai 14/11/2007, came back 22/11/07, got 90 days untill 19/2/08. My visa expired indeed at 29/12/07.

I go next week to Lao (before 19/01/07) and will stay about a week. Upon return, I will get 30 days. (I checked already upon passing there. It seems the previous issue of 60 days was an error.

I have consulted with TH consulate in Antwerp Belgium, they have confirmed this procedure.

This is what I understand now: if you (I guess age and 800K count here) leave Thailand and come back before your visa is expired, you will get another 90 days period.

Sorry if I created confusion, I thought Khon Kaen consulate was obvious Lao consulate, since there are no consulates or embassies in a country of that country. No Thai consulates or embassies in Thailand.

I always get tourist visa at Lao consulate in Khon Kaen, before I go to the border. If you do not have a Lao visa, you cannot go on the Thai Lao friendship bus from Udon Thani to VTE.

Hope this is clear now.
