My original visa was a Multiple Entry Non-immigrant O-A (retirement) visa issued in Dubai. If I get subsequent annual extensions of that visa, do I still have a multiple entry visa or has that attribute of the original visa lapsed?

First are you saying you received a one year stay on each entry or 90 day stay on each entry? The OA should get a one year stay on each entry and if multi entry it could only be used until the one year expiration date for entry - after that time you would need a re-entry permit for any travel.

Extensions of stay do not allow any entry - they are extensions of stay. To travel and return with the same permitted to stay date you require a re-entry permit.

The original application to the consulate was for a "retirement visa." It was issued as a Non-Immigrant, Multiple Entry, O-A visa. When I entered the country I was "admitted" for one year.

The extension, which includes the stamp "retirement visa" is for an additional year. There is no mention of multiple or single entry.

I thought the "extension" meant that the original visa was being extended. If it just refers to the permission to stay, then I can see that the multiple entry feature of the original visa would no longer apply.

Where did you obtain the "extension" that says "retirement visa"? If obtained from an immigration office it should not have the word "visa" on it. Only your permitted to stay is being extended on an extension of stay. If you travel out of Thailand you will have to have a re-entry permit issued first.
