Just for to let all of you know: IT-City has an Promotion of Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Students for just THB 3,500.00!

Looks like a good Deal but I don't know how long that Promotion will last. So if you're interested in, hurry up to get it.

Cheers.

I am afraid to know the regular price! That goes for less than $100 in US easy. Besides games which are good deals if you can get by with the Thai language version, as far as I have seen all software prices in Thailand are just too high.

Agreed. This applies to all companies except games, which are relatively cheaper at 399-699 Baht compared to $29-49.

Hi,

Better get Open office : http://www.openoffice.org/ which is free.

OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. To help build the community, join us.

I do not understand your complaints at all times. If you think the price in the USA are cheaper buy it there! But here we are in an Country named Thailand and NOT United States of America!

Better take it in Thailand as an Thai prices and in the USA as an USA price. It's very well known to most of the members that the cost in the USA are cheaper than in Thailand but +, + , +! Don't forget to mention the cost of Shipment incl. Paper handling and transport and the Import Duty which still exist for Software!

It's easy to complain but if you do so, be honest and submit the whole truth, here the total cost of an software bought legally in an other Country and imported legally to Thailand. If you don't do that, your complain is everything but NOT objective (BS)!

Cheers.

Jeeez, so you can save almost 200 baht by going to the US to buy it! (Current rate of exchange 33.01 THB/USD according to Bangkok Bank makes 100 USD = 3,301 THB.) BTW, there's a promotion going on in Sweden as well, MS Office 2007 at only 5,600 THB (well, 1,095 SEK actually). There are things to complain about in LOS, but I don't think this particular price is one of them.

Just my 2 satangs worth :o

/ Priceless

Games are much cheaper in Thailand so apparently the import duties are not the reason why other types of software are such crazy high prices.

Don't forget to mention the cost of Shipment incl. Paper handling...

Most software can be downloaded! All you need to do in most cases is buy an unlock key and not ship anything like the OEM versions of Office!

The cheap games are produced here under special license and cannot be sold outside Thailand, it's part of an effort to curb piracy, especially in Internet cafes. If you buy imported games here, the cost is 1400+ THB.

And while it's true that most software can be downloaded, it's not so easy to get stuff like Windows, Office or Photoshop in digital download form with a Thai address & credit card. I tried to buy a Windows Live OneCare license from Microsoft, they clearly have availability strictly in the markets they choose, which in that case did not include Thailand.

The student version of Office is indeed a nice deal, just a shame it doesn't include Outlook :o

To download a software is usefull for some people, that's true but that isn't the question here.

The question is the cost of the software imported to Thailand and the software in question is imported to Thailand!

And you can't download ALL software just maybe 50%!

And the comparing with Games is something which you can't do!

Games are modified by Thai Companies for to use in Thailand only, the use outside of Thailand is illegal! Than many of that games even translated to Thai Language or the documentation is in Thai only. The cost of production, which is done to 100% in Thailand even for Documentation and Packing, is much more cheap in Thailand than in Foreign Countries. And there isn't any Import Duty or Shipping cost!

Most of the Microsoft Software, which is in question here, is produced in the USA and there isn't Import Duties or Transportation to be paid, so the cost for the USA are cheaper than for other Countries. To buy Microsoft Software outside the USA cost more because of Shipping and Handling plus Transportation and Import duty in the Destination Country! The Microsoft resellers need to import the Software and they having to pay for the Transportation and so on. If a Company would like to buy such Software, they need to buy under the law of the Country, here Thailand to get the required Papers (Invoice, Tax-Invoice, Receipt) that they're able to place the software in the Company Assets. And so on, and so on.

My post was done to show to interested Users that they can buy legally that software for an low price in Thailand, with legal documents.

Cheers.

Just a word of warning on Office 2007. Other people using older versions of Office will not be able to open any Word or Exel files without first downloading a compatibility pack from Microsoft. They are saved as .docx and .xlsx files.

Small point but caused me some major headaches.

You need to select "save as Word 97/2003 document" when saving, or set it as default in the options...it is indeed a bit nasty that they save as docx and xslx by default, though, I'm sure many people got irritated with that behavior.

Just set the Auto Saving to the format 97-2003! It's as easy as that!

The advantage of the "new" file format is that you've more Layout options and the option of autocompressing. And if you a heavy Excel User, huge worksheets in the new format opens faster.

But again, don't tell it's danger to use the new Office 2007, that's all but BS!

Cheers.

Yeah I know that, but I have some spreadsheets with 50,000 rows, and when you save it as a 97/2003 Exel file it crops it at about 16,000 rows, so I have no choice.

Than the best is for you to use the old, much more limited Version of Office 2003! Or isn't it?

Cheers.

Well I've got Office 2007 now, and can't be arsed changing it. I've got around all the problems that I had now, it was just a heads up for anyone considering buying it.

Try buying it in the UK - you'd be shocked (and I would be embaressed) if I told you how much it costs in the UK

I was getting an PM from an Member who was try to tell that I promote Microsoft Products with my Post's.

Let me tell to all of you and let get that clear:

1.: I do NOT PROMOTE any product;

2.: I do NOT PROMOTE any company or Brand!

If I write about experiences, I don't mind either about which Brand, Company or product, I mind about fact's only!

About MS Office 2007 some of sentences of that PM I was getting are:

Explaining us that you can save as 2003 ... Yes that s true but most ppl wont do that when they ll send a doccument through an email :

1) X write is doc save it as 2007

2) X mail to Y the doc_2007

3) Y try to open but has office 2003 so cant access the doc...

4) Y mail X to say "Sorry cant open"

5) X mail Y the file doc_2003 and say "You should upgrade it s really cool..." (I save soem time coz most probably X-Y would exchange email to ask version and figure out that it s a version issue)...

As you see it s a real issue in the real world, It happens to me most of the time .... X forget to save as 2003 and is too lazy to change the default behaviour.

With openoffice i can open it and my coworker who use mac cant coz he use 2003. I have to save into pdf and send him the pdf.

And you end up saying that 2007 is "better" / "faster" which is not so much about sharing information on

discounts anymore.

My answer to that PM was quite short and just told to the writer that I didn't promote anything. I also wrote that it's the fault of the users of any software if they didn't check the compatiblity before using.

No one can hold me responsible for anything which isn't came from me, which I haven't produce!

Everyone has to held himself responsible if he's to "lazy"! Or whatever!

One othe sentence of that PM is:

Explaining us that microsoft cant make localized product like every game distributor are doing ?

I didn't wrote that MS can't make the product's in Thailand, just wrote that the Games are done from OEM's in Thailand.

I really do NOT like if someone try to "turn" what I wrote and even get a bit personal in PM's.

Fundamental critics are fine and I like them but only if they NOT get personal.

Cheers.

I was just wondering, how many people, who complain about MS-Office 2007 Thai begin expensive will actual consider buying it. I'm a supporter of Open Source software, but if I need to have some software package to do something and Open Source is not available I'm not to sticky to pull my wallet.

There is one kind of people I hate more then people who use, copy and distribute pirated software, that are persons who will never buy something still use it illegal and complain it cost to much (With good free of charge open-source alternatives available)

If you belief some software is to expensive, then simple not touch it... use a free open-source alternative, you sponsor open-source development and push large software companies to lower there prices. By using illegal pirated software you not only break to law you also killing off the free open-source alternatives
