cclub75
TrueCrypt is a free open source on-the-fly encryption tool (for Windows, MacOS and Linux). Some members on TV have previously praised this software (a real piece of art). A new version (5.0) has just been released. TrueCrypt 5.0 offers now the " ability to encrypt a system partition or entire system drive (i.e. a drive where Windows is installed) with pre-boot authentication ". freitag1
Doesnt have to be the sys partion but can be as well. I know some people (graffiti writer) who have a completely encrypted system in case the police shows up.
dave_boo
Sorry to be a dunce here - but why would you encrypt the sys partition? I think that that line refers to individual partitions on a single drive. IE, on a Windows your C:\ D:\ and E:\ drives assuming you have 3 on a disk, and on Linux a \; \home; \boot; etc.
endure
I've used it to encrypt the system partiton on my Asus eee so if it gets lost/stolen while I'm travelling no-one will be able to boot into the O/S.
freitag1
Endure how does it look like? When do you have to enter your password if you encrypt the OS partition?
endure
When the machine boots up you get a DOS type screen where you have to put in the password you chose before it will go any further. Be warned that when you install it it will produce a rescue disk ISO image and will not proceed with installation until it's read the disk produced so you can't install it onto a system partition unless you have access to an external CD drive.
