HI, I have been downloading old TV shows from Guba.com and burning them on to DVD, I am using Roxio Media Creator 9 and Sony DVD-R discs however the last three have had the sound out of sync. Watching them on the computer they are fine, any suggestions?

Two options.

1, Change programs (roxio, and nero both have these problems) you need a program that is specifically for converting Divx files. I use "convertxtodvd" but there are others. Google or torrent them. These will convert the files and then burn them to DVD for you (usually quicker too)

Or 2, just buy a new DVD player that will play Divx files then you can burn 5-6 film to your DVD-r and watch them without converting them. You can get the DVD players from the likes of Tesco etc. for around a 1000bt. I do this except burn them to a DVD-RW watch them and then if I decide they're worth keeping I'll convert them to their own disk.

I had the same problem when I first started burning vcds and dvds. After searching the net and reading various forums on the subject I soon discovered there's more to burning than simply loading your file into Roxio/Nero and hitting GO. If you want perfectly in-sync dvds every time (as I now get) you need to put in a little extra time and effort - not a lot though.

Firstly, out of sync audio is usually a result of a variable bitrate audio track (VBR) which, when encoded and burnt onto disc causes the sound to slowly drift out of sync towards the end of the disc.

Secondly, using one-program-does-it-all solutions like Nero and Roxio; which are both bloated, buggy and expensive, is not the best way to go.

I now use ConvertXtoDvd for encoding and Nero Lite for burning to dvd. But I check every file first using Gspot and if I find one with VBR I correct it using Virtualdubmod, both of which are freeware. All the information you need can be found on the Afterdawn.com forums, you just need to sit down and trawl through it all.

I now get perfect results every time doing the above and I'm no techie geek.

Hope this helps,

SL.
