Jai Dee Posted February 19, 2008 Share Posted February 19, 2008 CAR SALES SCAM Ten policemen 'facing arrest' Officers 'paid to boost credibility of rental firm' Arrest warrants will be issued for 10 police officers involved in a car-sales scam, a police source said yesterday. The 10 officers were paid Bt500 to Bt1,000 a day by Yufuku Decorate Co Ltd to walk in and out of the company's compound to convince innocent investors it was a legitimate business, the source said. The 10 are commissioned and non-commissioned officers attached to Bangkok-based police stations and the Crime Suppression Division. Min Buri police said there were 284 victims of Yufuku, which was allegedly selling stolen vehicles. The number of both luxury and common vehicles that had gone missing was 368. Only 19 cars had been found and returned to their owners. Yufuku employees Natnarin Muhammad, Jaral Supharb and Thitirat Seemuk were wanted on arrest warrants but were still at large. Another employee, Pheeraphong Phirakchawa-nant, is in police custody. Meanwhile, police said they had found Juthamas Prapha, wanted for another scam run by Paradise Car Rent Co Ltd. As well as selling stolen cars to innocent buyers, Juthamas' company demanded that the owners pay up to Bt250,000 for the return of their cars if they did not want to lose them for good. Central Investigation Bureau chief Pol Lt General Adisorn Nonsee said victims of Paradise Car Rent Co Ltd began lodging complaints with police in March last year. Police had retrieved 13 cars, including two found yesterday, out of a total of 30 stolen. The two luxury cars alleged to have been connected to Paradise Car Rent were found in Bangkok yesterday, while another vehicle, a brand new pick-up truck, was found abandoned near Wat Sothon in Chachoengsao two days ago. The Isuzu pick-up was the first vehicle, possibly connected to either or both scams, to be found outside Bangkok. BigSnake Posted February 19, 2008 Share Posted February 19, 2008 If sound to good to be true it-----------one would think that the victims here would have use a little common sense, ie if a company can make a profit of Bt20000(???) a month on a rental car why wouldn't they just buy the car themselves own it and rent it out all profit to company. It's the Benny Hill Show ! Even by thai standards. It's a shame that Nation prints what the "source" is saying... Pay police officers to play the comedy, and walk in and out ? The police officers were paid because they were part of the scam. An active part. But as usual, they try to reduce their responsability. The first reports said that some vehicules were found inside the police station. I think it's obvious... The officers were stealing/using the cars. So they were minimum accomplices. Scott Posted February 20, 2008 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Last week the newspaper report someone had gone to the police to report a stolen vehicle, only to see a police officer go to the vehicle and open the door (presumably with a key). It was then reported that several police may be involved. The involvement of the police then conveniently dropped off the radar screen, as they went after the really vile crooks! Without the active assistance of the police, this scam would have long ago been stopped or slowed way down. Very sad, but all too common here. Although 85% of the jungles have been cut down, this country sure isn't out of the woods with a police force like this. Toxic was the head of the Poilce IT department and also the authorized motorola represenative for Thailand. So he effecivly sold himself millions of dollars worth of police walkie-talkies and commication equipment at inflated rates in no-bid contracts. Not a bad start.
