hi´

I downloaded last day the latest version of Norton Antivirus, the 2005 one.

installed it, and tried it ...

it´s lighter, faster and some new features ...nice :D

it seems that this time, they made a real new product well updated to the new kind of threats we may encounter on the web.

good job ... worth to try :o

cheers

ps; I did not download it from symantec ...

if you want the address ... pm me and transmit it ... thanks :D

I got it over the weekend as well.

Problem for me is that it's still the same resource hog as always... there was a noticable drop in performance with my top range PC... has a large memory footprint compared to F-prot

hi'

you are all right ...

but, still it seems to be one of the most efficient one on the market ...

I swap from nav2004 to AVG 7 full, a lot lighter and very efficient too :D

but, nav is good for people who are not fully skiled with coms, but fully paranoid with the web ... don't you think? :o

ps; the best is to have a well working firewall, and spybot (with tea-timer on) ...

but, it's only my choice :D

I use Norton Systemworks which has Norton Antivirus bundled with it.

Whenever I do a complete system virus scan it always hangs at a file somewhere in C/windows/system32/*.*

Sometimes the file is part of Adobe SVG, other times it is a *.DLL file.

It means I can never fully scan my computer because the only way out is to abort the scan.

I can select particular folders to scan but I think? it is probably important that the Windows/system32 folder gets scanned.

Anyone else have this problem/ know of a solution??

Thanks

it looks like that something is installed into your system ...

it might be a trojan that can modify the behavior of some antivirus ...

if norton can't get rid of this, try an anti-trojan program.

you can also run spybot or adaware ... find the faulty.

I won't be surprised that you come back and say, I found something wrong :o

a good anti-trojan prog : Trojan remover now in version 6.3x

for spybot and adaware ...

here :

Spybot search & destroy

AdAware

for Trojan remover Trojan Remover

try this and tell us ...

good luck

merci francois,

I have been using adaware and spybot for a long time - nothing found

I tried the Trojan Remover - nothing found.

I just ran Norton Anti virus - it hung at C:\windows\system32\appmgmt\(a directory with random numbers etc)\ which the file explorer showed as empty.

I deleted that directory, ran the scanner over just the C:\windows\system32 folder and it scanned the lot with no problems showing up.

(There is also a directory c:\windows\system32\appmgmt\MACHINE which seems to have nothing in it.)

SO I don't know why its having the problem when scanning My Computer.

I read someting on the net about XP roaming profiles not exiting after use and ending up in C:\windows\system32\appmgmt\ - but then my eyes starting glazing over - above my level of understanding .

My computer works OK - but Norton keeps warning me that I haven't done a full scan for a long time.

Francois can you reccommend a good free virus scanner I can get off the web?

Thanks muchly for your help and suggestions :o

PS I've just done a full virus scan since deleting that directory and it completed with no viruses shown :D

hi'

I have the same files ... they don't block NAV ... :o

they are empty ... why so? ... I have no idea ... will look for :D

you can try AVG6 free ...

but it doesn't work with Sp2 :D

make a search for AVG ... you'll find it easy :D

take a look at the thread freeware ... it's a gold mine :D

cheers
