Bleech Or The Equivilant In Thailand

Featured Replies

i have some stains on my floor and would like to buy bleech but i have not seen it in any of the supermarkets? any ideas? thanks.

I always buy bleach at tescos. Can't remember the brand name, (i'm not at home now), but i am sure there is more than one choice.

Tesco Lotus, the name is Clorox

Thanks lioness, Clorox, that's the one i get too.

A far, far more common brand... available anywhere cleaning supplies are sold...

The brand name is Haiter. Make sure you get the blue-colored bottle as other colors are starch, etc.

If you turn the bottle around, it will say bleach in English.

It's less expensive also and as ALL bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite, it doesn't make a diddly squat difference to get anything but whatever is the least costly.

If you want Chlorine Bleach - Sodium hypochlorite - read the small print on the back. A lot of bleaches don't contain chlorine.

The white bottles, brand name "Hygiene Bleach", contain 6% chlorine.

Some contain 5% hydrogen peroxide - I don't know how effective they are.

Bleech is available in every supermarket in Thailand.

And that is just about every grocery shop in the country as well as every Supermarket or chain store. Haiter is the common bleach brand here.

But admit is can be hard to find for those of us used to the white apple cider type containers that Clorox is normally sold in.

As said, everywhere. Including Family Marts/ 7-Elevens

I've noticed that the local 'haiter' seems a little more potent than the clorox brand in the states. and for sure the hydrogen peroxide is more potent at 6% rather than the us standard of 3%....so dilute it 100% or you will get nasty burns.

I find all the bleech in Thailand to be very dilute and have tried to find something stronger.

Leads me to vixol, don't know what it is but it cleans tiles and the like, don't try it on cloths.

I always use "haiter" brand and find it effective for most things. The largest problem was back in the early days when asking for it in small shops.

Something like ........

..... Bleach mee mai?

...... mai mee khrap !

........ Chlorine mee mai ?

....... mai mee khrap!

........ Ahhhh, jam dai leow ! haiter (English pronunciation) mee mai ?

........ mai mee khrap !

thinking .......... Borrox !

wait ..... spots something on shelf ....

...... a noon mee arai ?

....... ahhhh ..... Hai - tuur !

always remember the Isaan tuur , duur ....... kan -e- dur

:o

Vixol = hydrochloric acid. The stuff in the white bottle is 20% - extremely strong and will eat your grouting and maybe your tiles away too if you leave it too long. :o

Good for getting rid of mould on the driveway though :D
