Does Penang Issue 1 Year Non O's?

Featured Replies

Hiya guys + gals,

Im a British national living in Bangkok with my wife and our daughter. My tourist visa doesnt have long to run and I really cant be

ar*ed with going to Cambodia every month for 3 months then having to go outside to an embassy and then back to the Cambodias again.

So, just wondering if I went to Penang if anyone has any experience of applying and getting a non 0 VISA on the basis of a marriage to

a Thai national and what it is exactly that you need to show them? Many many thanks to anyone that can be of helo on this.

P.S. Wouldnt go just for a single entry no point only if I could get the multiple. Emailed Penang with no response.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even with a multiple entry, you will still need to make 90 day border runs. If you can qualify income wise, 40K monthly family income, you should try to entend your stay at immigration for one year. Then you do not need to make border runs.

I believe KL would be a better place to apply.

Don't know about Penang but the embassy in Singapore will issue multi entry, 12 month 'O' visas with proof of marriage and proof of having equivalent to THB400k in a bank somewhere (doesn't have to be in Thailand) - loads of threads on this subject on the forum. Unless you leave Thailand regularly (for work / other) then I'd probably follow jstumbo's suggestion to see if you can get annual extension of stay within Thailand ...

Forget Penang! I was just there last week with Marriage cert and all the right docs and they only gave me a 3 mo single. I'll definitely try Singapore next. They say its a bit of a crap shoot you may get it or you may not. Do you feel lucky.

You did not have any Thai bank account and tried to use an account in Jersey from your previous post. Only Singapore allows use of worldwide bank account balance of 400k or more for multi entry visa issue. Penang requests a Thai bank account (although people have obtained without recently).

My son was at Penang yesterday for a multi O but even though he had all the correct docs and 400,000 in thai bank they only issued a single. The idiot on the counter told him he needed 800,000 or if he had 600,000 then he could accept that. They are obviously just out to be as awkward as possible at Penang so dont go there if you want a multi. Try Singapore.

Is your son married to a Thai?

yes kris he has a thai wife and as I said he had all the correct documents, but they made up this story about needing 800,000 baht.

As far as I am aware that amount is only for retirement visa and he is only 31, so they cannot have mistaken his requirements....can they????

I got my Multi "O" in KL...

Head there.

Bring a letter from your wife specifically requesting a Multi.. It can be written in Thai.

They had me fax one directly to the Embassy, when I asked for the Multi...

When I got back to the Embassy, the Fax had arrived.. Paid my Money and was done.

There is no set requirement for funds - a Consulate can provide without funds (most) or request a specific amount (Singapore) or act at there discretion (as Penang seems to do currently). They may be using age (which is often used) as a factor (those over age 50 or proof of outside employment allowed lower requirements).

Do you think it would make any difference to the application if your Thai wife goes with you?

It helps to remove doubts about it being a real relationship so should be a positive.

Just a fortnight or so back my mate got a marriage non O ME 1 year from penang.. Usual docs and 400k in a Thai bank. No other questions asked he says it seemed routine.

i ve been legally married to a thai for 13 years now, made a multiple 1 year in penang on numerous occasions, have never shown any money there, but i went 2 weeks ago , i had a photocopy of my wifes id, her resident papers, our marriage certificate, and 320,000 in the bank account, i was only given a single 3 month. when i asked why the answer was''its up to me i give i dont give. defininately a gamble if youre looking for a multiple 1 year :o
