Why is it that the cleaning staff for toilets, whether it be shopping malls, offices, or bars/clubs, are always women? And more importantly, why is it that they have no compunction about going about their business, while you go about yours?

They can't wait 'til you're done taking a slosh?

I just don't think it's right...

Lol, I seriously don't care if they clean the floor while I pee next to them. I guess it is just no mens work so that's why you see so many women doing it. Many men are working as motorbike taxis or hang out with friends while their wife works.

i have no problem with women (or men) cleaning out the john while i'm in there. having a man walk up behind me and start rubbing my shoulders while i'm taking a piss is a different matter entirely.

C'mon people. This is Thailand. What a bunch of pantywastes you are. You think the janitorial staff is interested in how you are hung? They are interested in how much bacteria you spread.

They are just doing a job (that I would not fancy doing) keeping the facilities that I happen to be using in a clean condition.

I appreciate what they are doing, if we make eye contact, I give them a smile and a nod. Other than that, I just go about my business.

A shrink will tell you that Toilet cleaners become 'non people' and are therefore invisible to us mere mortals who want to dirty the place up. :o

They are like many of the Isaan seasonal workers . a brown skinned underclass that keeps Bangkok clean and tidy (and safe if you count security guards) subsisting on a minimum wage. Be kind and cheerful and acknowledge their contribution by giving them a smile and kind word now and then.

We are presently having a condo remodeled and one really annoying thing about the workers is their use of the toilets. They can't seem to get the hang of lifting up the toilet seat and peeing in the bowl. They do manage to pee all over the seat and never think about cleaning it off. Why is that? :o

Is this something you ponder, patiently waiting at your appointed "glory hole" bored into the toilet partition?

Have you ever stepped out of the city limits long enough to see how the rest of Thailand pees? Hence, your answer. :o

No I have never really looked into how people in Thailand pee. :D Never really expected it to be any different here than anywhere else with the exception of the squatters.

What's wrong, do you get "stage fright" and are unable to go? You might want to see a doctor about your prostate.........

Geeeeez, these ladies have husbands and kids, probably seen a male pee a million times, go about your business, they don't care.

Well, I guess you'll never really know the answer to your question, will you? Gotta do the research.

Can't say about the two willy's but their pee is definitely yellow. At least on the toilet seat. :D

It's because many Thai people will always squat when doing a "sit down" bathroom visit, even with a western toilet so that they're perched up on top of the seat. Bizarre but true!

Hear, hear!

OP, you never used the Gents in France? Same there; no big deal.

BTW, what's all this about "shoulder-rubbing"? Is this a BKK thing, or something? :o

Have to agree, those toilet botherers are a bloody nuisance.

Last year, my cousin and his wife came here on honeymoon and stayed over for a couple of nights in Bangkok. One night we took them to Radio City, Patpong for the Elvis & Tom Jones show....

My cousin (who is a macho, muscular 'man's man' from Manchester), went to the Mens toilet..... He came out telling us how he almost lamped the guy for massaging him whilst he was peeing :D - thought he was coming on to him!!! :D His face was a picture.

Luckily, a British Airways male flight attendant next to him intervened and explained. He said afterwards, the boy scuttled away, fear written all over his face! So lucky he didn't end up with a black eye!! After, the British Airways guy came over and his group and a good night was had by all! :D (My cousin couldn't believe he was supposed to tip the guy!... and that people actually do tip!!!).

(We were killing ourselves laughing cos he is such a macho guy!). Would definitely have been a Jeremy Beadle moment! :D

The solution is: take your own and clean it yourself....

I've always wanted to go and pee (standing up) in the women's washroom at Tesco's to see what they'd say when I pointed to the lady in the mens room. :D

There was a lady peeing (standing up) in the Mens room???? :o
