Is anyone running a successful business in Issan, if so what are you doing, how long have you been operating etc. I have heard that your up against it a bit in Issan.

I've set up a rice harvesting business - return on investment last year (first full year) was about 20% plus employing members of family who wish to work. Should improve this year with more experience and some further investment. I've learnt a lot and, hopefully, so have my Thai colleagues and I've enjoyed doing it.

Yes, I do have investments overseas but should not need to touch them except for major capital purchases.

No, I harvest rice. I have combine harvesters and ancilliary equipment and offer a service to rice farmers. This provides an income which is enough to support myself and my wife's immediate family (or those who wish to work with us). We do have about 45 rai but this is not our main business.
