Arin or อริญชย์ is the name of our son.

We found this name in a book with Thai baby names.

The meaning should be: the one that wins from his enemies (or something like that, I don't remember exactly and I don't have that book anymore).

Which language does this name come from? From which word is it derived?

Is it a mythological name?

And what's the exact meaning?

As far as I know there are three variations of this name in Thai: อริชัย , อริญชย์ , and อริญชัย (Arichai, Arin, and Arinchai).

In Thai sources the meaning of these names is given as ผู้ชนะศัตรู (a person who defeats his enemy).

In Sanskrit there is a word 'ari' meaning enemy. In McFarland's dictionary I find อริราช 'an enemy of the Crown or the kingdom' (this word I never saw before). And in Thai there is a word ชัย 'victory'. As in ชัยชนะ 'victory'.
