Can Anybody Help?

Featured Replies

I was recently hired at a secondary school in issan and my contact at the school submitted my application for a teachers license last month. I received an e mail from her yesterday stating that my TL is on hold since i don't have a degree in education (I have a degree in counseling) She stated in the e mail that I have to take a series of tests according to the Teachers Council? 4 subjects that include basic Thai language, educational psychology, IT, and educational innovation. Each subject cost 1000 baht which she stated would be reimbursed at the end of my contract assuming that I pass.

Has anyone heard of this? Is this a new regulation by the MOE? My contact is away on a summer trip with her students and will call me on March 13th but i thought that i would try to find out as much information as i could about this issue beforehand, so can anyone help? Is there preparatory classes or a manual to study prior to taking these tests? Sorry but this is coming as sort of a shock to me! This will be my first teaching job. I have a TEFL and degree. I was under the impression that the TEFL IS the requirement if you do not have a degree in education. Have things changed?

Any help with this matter is greatly greatly appreciated! thanks.

Hi, and welcome. Please check on this forum for a fairly long set of explanations. Some folks think they know. Some folks think we're all folked.

Thanks for the links! after reviewing them I am still just as confused! But nothing surprises me when it comes to the MOE or Teachers Council who are notorious for implementing new policies without a proper, straightforward plan. :o
