According to the latest Tourism Research Australia figures released today, domestic visitors and visitor nights to Sydney and NSW had declined in the year ended December 2007. Despite the overall decline, holiday nights in regional NSW held steady and daytrippers to and in NSW increased by 9.6 per cent for the year according to the National Visitors Survey. The good news is the growth in international travel. Tourism NSW forecasts suggest international visitors will account for more nights spent in NSW than domestic visitors before 2015. Sydney is a global destination with more than 40 international airlines that can funnel visitors to other parts of the State and Australia. Domestic tourism in NSW faces challenging times through a number of short term and longer term influences.
