I'm travelling to Thailand next month on 1 stage of a round the world trip. I'm flying into Bangkok and then travelling south through Malaysia to Singapore to fly on to New Zealand.

The question I have is: I'll be in Thailand for less than 30 days but I have no proof that I am leaving Thailand because I'm flying out of Asia through Singapore. Do I need to apply to the Thai embassy in London for a tourist visa? (I live in Ireland)

My sister did a very similar journey earlier in the year and she didn't have to apply to the embassy for the visa she just had to fill in some forms when she arrived in Thailand. Usually her word would be good enough for me but I've read elsewhere on this forum that with no proof of onward travel you might get hassle from the airline. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Can I get a Thai tourist visa on arrival? And if so would I need to bring passport photos with me to Thailand?

Thanks in advance for any help.

...looks to me you should haveno problem as long as you leave within 30 days.......but scouser who is onn thaivisa should be able to confirm this as long as you come from a country that Thailand grants 30 day ........no need for visa on arrival

As I read it he has no proof of leaving Thailand within 30 days so the airline may catch that and not let him board. As he does not appear to have attached tickets/routing back the airline may indeed look at him closely. The best course is to have a visa or booked air travel within 30 days. You can not obtain a visa in Thailand - only the 30 day visa exempt entry.
