Hi,

The more I read about visa runs the more I get confused!

I'm Australian, so ill will arrive in Bangkok with a 60 day visa. I plan to stay in Bangkok for 1 year on a tourist visa. Is this possible if I do a few visa runs? If so can I keep going back to the same country to get a new visa? (ie. Laos).

If it is not possible to stay 1 year, whats the maximum stay?

Any info would be much apprieacated!

If your in Australia why don't you apply for a 1 year NoN- imm B or O visa from there ?

that way you only have to do 90 day border runs without worry of not getting a new visa ect every time.

that would make things less difficult for a years stay.

Hope it helps

Cheers

You can stay on tourist visas as long as they are willing to issue them. Try to get a double entry visa in Australia before coming.

In between visas you can make a border run and get a 30 day visa exempt entry. You can be in Thailand a max of 90 days in a 6 month period using the visa exempt stamps. If you have a visa issued by a consulate, it does not count against this total.

I would recommend that you only make two border runs for 30 day visa exempt entries in a row. Then go for another tourist visa. If for some reason you get denied a visa, you would still have 30 days in Thailand to figure out what to do, and to go to a different consulate.

Make sure to extend each stay on a tourist visa at immigration within Thailand. You should be able to extend for 30 days.

Go to Vientiane Laos for your first visa, apply for a double entry tourist visa.

Remember to extend each entry, and make sure that you make your second entry prior to the date of expiration on the visa.

Keep doing this and if they refuse to give you a tourist visa.

Another option depending on what you plan on doing in Thailand, you could always sign up for Thai language classes and get a ED visa. Then you do not have to make border runs, or get other visas. You would just need to take paperwork from the school to immigration every 90 days and extend your stay for another 90 days.

Not sure on what basis you would qualify for a one year multi entry non-imm O visa.

Thank you for the info!

I'm going to apply for a Non Immigration visa for business purposes. So does this give me 90 day visa?

I will need to stay longer than a 90 day period, approx. 1 year. Can I do visa runs over there to allow me to stay for 1 year?

Thanks again!

If you can get a Multi Entry you can stretch it out to 15 months. This would need border hops every 90 days.

Try this first and if they will not issue then try for the double entry tourist visa.

Naka.

ํYou should not have a problem to stay another 180 days. Come, and see what the position is when you 6 months are coming to an end. There will be a solution available.

Just because you want to stay 1 year does not mean that you get to stay one year.

If you have legitimate business needs for a multiple entry non-immigrant B visa, then one will probably be issued to you in Australia. You may come and go as often as you like for one year , but MUST exit every 90 days. The day before that visa expires you may exit and return and will be allowed to stay 90 more days (but when you leave you will not be allowed back in on THAT visa.

If, as is likely, you cannot demonstrate to the embassy or consulate, that you should rec' a multiple entry non-imm-b, Then you should ask for a double entry tourist visa. This will allow you to stay in the country for approximately 6 months. You will have to extend each enty with immigration (for 30 days) as well as exit and re-enter after your first 90 days.

You may be able at that point to go to a nearby country and get another tourist visa.
