Hollywood Remakes Recent (?) Films.

Cuban

Recommended Posts

This links to the IMDB site listing remade movies due for release in the next few years.

To keep a Thai connection with this thread I notice that Bangkok Dangerous is due in August, I think I've read something here about this film as well.

What strikes me is the number of films that I consider still recent (Showing my age I guess.) as well as such classics that no remake could ever replace the original.

Like:

Short Circuit.

The Man That Fell To Earth.

I Dream Of Jennie.

Some of the remakes are okay, but others are truly terrible

If you want to see two EXCELLANT remakes, on par with originals, see The Virginian with Bill Pullman I think and Monty Walsh with Tom Selleck. Amazing stuff. VERY good, proves it CAN still be DONE. They just generally don't WANT TO.

I think Hollywood is running out of ideas, these days if it's not a remake it is an animated film. <deleted> we used to call those things cartoons and they were shown Saturday mornings in the cinemas for children. These days more adults than kids go to watch the likes of Shrek, I suppose it reflects the general loss of contact with reality. The funny thing is that the "actors" in these films get considered for Oscars.

I dream of Jeannie was a TV show, Cuban.

But the list is quite amazing, Footloose is being remade? :o

I generally refuse to watch remakes...

They are generally terrible or at least pointless(like Planet of the Apes)

And agreed that the orginal is often so good there is simply no need

to remake it.

It is poverty of ideas and pure greed that makes them do this.

But it is also the ignorance of the young generation and lack of exposure

to some of the classics . Sadly the lack of art-house theatres just contributes to this.
