I am planning my holidays for when my parents are over in December. One place they have never been to in Thailand is Koh Lanta so that was my first choice venue. As I am now based in Singapore, we were planning to take the direct flight on Tiger from Changi to Krabi ... but it appears it's stopping at the end of March. Does anyone know if this is just a low season thing or whether they're canning the route altogether?

If the latter, we could still get to Lanta by flying to Phuket I suppose. Looks like it would be too far to do it by road though. Can anyone comment on the practicalities of getting to Lanta from Phuket by boat? Would one of the more upmarket resorts be able to arrange this?

Thanks,

CC

Yes, you have the Andaman Princess that goes from Rassada Pier, Phuket town to Koh Lanta. Most of the little travel agencies outside the resorts on the road will be able to book that for you.

We also now have Destination Air, a seaplane that goes from Phuket International and lands on the water at Koh Lanta.

I took that flight a couple of nights ago and there was maybe 30 people on it. Low season has started in Krabi/Koh Lanta in a big way! Possibly Tiger does not want to lose money? I hope they do come back as I like the jaunt down to Singapore.

Maybe look into Singapore-Kula Lumpur-Krabi on Air Asia? That flight arrives at a better time than the Tiger flight.

You could also take the foot ferry from Phuket to Koh Lanta...takes about 3 hours. Note that they switch boats (on the water) at Koh Phi Phi.

I've seen seaplanes unload folks at Pimilai.

as ONOMATAHO mentioned, the most convenient option is for sure to take a short flight to KUL (but to the LCCT!), and then continue by AirAsia to krabi, from where its less than 1 hour to the ferry station for Koh Lanta.

TIGER flights SIN - KBV are not likely to make a comeback, as they need their aircrafts for their recently started domestic operations in Aussie-Land.

as I read in a tourism-business-mag just few days ago, their management stated that they will monitor the situation, and if demand is strong, maybe resume the flights.

SILK are considering to start SIN-KBV again, but certainly not before the beginning of the high season later this year......

All just sounds like a bit too much faffing about for a couple in their late 60's - guess we'll do Krabi / Lanta next time and make sure the AP's fly in via BKK not SIN ...

Shame as Mrs CC and I have had a few decent holidays around Krabi over the years including a great trip to Lanta over New Year 07/08 ...
