Found this while searching for more info on the web:

In most countries, babies born as British citizens or babies born to serving members of the British Armed Forces can be registered by the appropriate British authorities. However, parents need to request this facility as there is no automatic notification of the birth, as with children born in the UK.

Here is a list of the countries where a birth cannot be registered with the British authorities:

Ascension Islands

Australia

Bermuda

Canada

Cayman Islands.

Christmas Islands

Falkland Islands

Gibraltar

Nevis

St.Helena

South Africa

Turks & Cacos Islands

Virgin Islands (UK)

Interesting to see that you don,t even have the option of registering in some countries, mostly old colonies, including Australia,Canada and South Africa.

So the British embassy recommend it but do not provide for it in every instance....mmm...yes very interesting...

However can anyone please advise me of any future problems she might encounter if she is not registered? How does one get their national insurance number at attainable age in England for example?

No problems, and getting a "national insurance number at attainable age in England" depends on being in England (resident and ordinarly resident) and either being a british citizen or having a visa that permits work. ((And of course the wonderful DHSS :D:D:o:D:D
