Help Ref. Police Check Procedure

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am sure that this has been covered already, but I am struggling to find/understand the info I need.

I will be hopefully coming to Thailand on a non-imm education visa. My first question is, do i need the police check to obtain this visa (from Hull in the Uk). I have checked Hull consulate website, and as far as i can make out, the police check is not a requirement to get any non-imm B visa.

Is the police check therefore only required in order to obtain a work permit.

Secondly, the Hull/Thai Consulate website does discuss a SUBJECT ACCESS REPORT, that is required for anyone wishing to work, or retire in Thailand. However, if you then go to the Metropolitan Police website, and download SUBJECT ACCESS FORM, the following condition applies:

Requests for Information for Employment Purposes

The MPS does not provide PNC disclosures for employment vetting services. If you require a disclosure for employment purposes, please contact Disclosure Scotland on: 0870 609 6006 or via their website www.disclosurescotland.co.uk. The current procedure whereby companies require individuals to exercise their rights under Subject Access provisions at section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998, as a form of vetting, has been considered to be unlawful for many years and is against the spirit of the legislation. When Section 56 of the Act is implemented, it will become a criminal offence for the employer to ask individuals, as a condition of employment, to go through this process.

CONFUSED!!

To add to this, the SUBJECT ACCESS REPORT contains details of arrests, Prosecutions, Convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Warnings. Whereas, DISCLOSURE SCOTLAND provide a basic disclosure which only contains details of convictions considered UNSPENT under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Just imagine, if, for example, someone had been arrested for suspicion of rape, but, it wasnt them and they were then released, because the real rapist was then caught, the subject access report would list this arrest, wheras the Disclosure Scotland would not!!

Do you get my point?

Is Disclosure Scotland suitable for Thai requirements?

has anyone had any experiences?

can anyone shed any light?

much appreciated

An education visa is ED. But you then say B visa. They are not the same. Are you coming to Thailand to work as a teacher? Normal work in Thailand does not require a police report. Nor does retirement if done in Thailand (Hull can not provide such service in the UK - only London can).

If you are planning to teach you may be able to find more information posting in that forum where experience with police reports is most common. Most visa applicants do not need them.

If you are coming here to teach you will need a Police report.

If you on a Non-imm B with a view to working here and getting a W/P outside of teaching - dont need a Police report

If you are retiring and trying to do this through the UK, they will ask for a Police report possibly a medical cert

If you come here on a visa with the intent of "looking a retirement possibilites"..you can change this over to a "retirement" visa

in Thailand and dont need a Police report or medical report just the cash in a Thai bank....

Confused ???.....Welcome to Thailand...
