My wife tells me we have had good rainfalls over the last three days.

As we have put in new gardens , trees and lawn turf this is most welcome.

Might flush all that Kee Nok out of the roof gutters as well :o

Good rainfall is an understatement. We had hail storms that peppered some of the leaves of my plants and enough rain to swim in! I hope it stops soon, i'd like to go to sleep not wondering if we will have electricity the next morning!

By the way, these pictures were taken around 16.30, see how dark it is. I had to photoshop the one of me.

It isn't much fun when the strong wind that always precedes it blows out six of your roof panels just before the deluge starts.

Yeah, bamboo screaming, cocunuts falling, plastic chairs skidding across the floor...it certainly does arrive with a bang

Arrive with a bang? Well yeah, but last night it left with a bang. We've had pretty good thunderstorms all week here and yesterday afternoon/last night was no exception. But just before 10.00 last night, the whole place lit-up with a blinding flash and before I could even form my lips to begin uttering a well-known Anglo-Saxon expletive there was an almighty bang that shook the whole house and set all the local dogs barking. Not that that takes much but you get the picture. The missus and I must have jumped about a foot into the air; for a moment she had the complexion she's always dreamed-of. Even the car alarm went-off. I think it probably struck the 'phone mast which is about 200m awayYou could hear the echo of the thunder going on for nearly a minute. I thought I'd been near lightning but never as close as last night.

It has been thunder, lightning and heavy rain most days over here near Khampaeng Phet. On Sunday it blew an apple (so my wife says) tree down just missing our house power linesand the fresh water storage tanks. It took 3 of us plus my 4wd pick up in 4wd low and reverse gear to pull it back up again.

I reckon it will be a goner in the next big wind as it is propped up by some wooden poles at the moment.

Andy, you'll no doubt be pleased to know that, as I write, rain is once again falling on my upturned apple cheeks here in Chumphae. So there's a good chance your trees are getting another soaking

Are you back before Songkran?

G'day mate.

No, I will miss out which, could be a blessing :D I got an ear infection last time. ha ha

I wont be back until the 24th but will be thirsty and rabid by then.

Glad to hear my trees are getting a soaking though. Fa got bitten on her "foot finger" by a carnivorous centipede the other day. She is Ok now though after taking a kilo of medicine :o

See you in a few weeks

We've had some good rain over the past week and on Monday night we had 20 mm in a bit over an hour. Washed off the roof and cleaned the gutters. The place has freshened up and greened up overnight - in fact my lawn needs mowing after being almost dormant for ages.

My wife tells me it is normal to get good rain about Songkran time and it is necessary to ensure a good mango crop.

Lightning and thunder in the distance as i am typing this so i guess some more tonight. Fantastic.

One of the big b@stards? :o I've heard that while not normally life threatening, Their bite is really, really painful. I'm terrified of them and leave well alone but the Thais seem to take great delight in smashing them into little bits.

The trouble with this rain is you get lots more insect (and arthropod :D ) activity. You better get back quick if you want to see that new growth on your trees - the bugs will beat you to it.

Yes, one of those big orange buggers, she said her foot was very big but not too bad now except one of her "foot fingers" still hurts. :D

Apparently when the rains came there was a frog hunt going on out the back and she went down to see how they were going (and possibly to negotiate her cut)

From what I have read it is a painful experience and yes, it was smashed to bits :D

Seems things are greening up and growing up in Nong Bhua Lamphu Province as well.

Two weeks ago the Cicadas were singing and the locals were feasting! :D

Then it was fresh rat out of the fields nearby. :D

Last week papa brought home a big supply of frogs for everyone! (Joy eats the "tiny frogs" and the "bull frogs" but the REALLY BIG ONES make her sick. She doesn't eat those.)

This week it was lizards. :D

If it flies, walks, crawls or hops it's on the menu! :o

Joy said there was lots and lots of wind with the storms lately. TV "no good" at night because the antenna must sway in the wind too much I assume?

Another thing ..during these storms most of the people in our immediete vicinity will turn their mobile phones off during the build up and event of the storm.

My wifes explanation was that some people died in a close-by village last year after using their phones during a storm ....I havent heard of this before and put it down to a village myth, anybody else see or hear of this ?

Yip, they do that here too. It's supposed to attract the lightning, it's an urban myth that started in China, and like most urban legends, is wrong.
