Does anyone know whether the fact that my girlfriends low paid, unskilled job will count against her when applying fro a tourist visa to the UK? Would really appreciate any ideas to get around this problem, if indeed it is a problem.

What counts are reasons for her to return to Thailand after travel and having the funds to support that travel. An unskilled low paying job would not help in that regard. Unless there are offsetting conditions would not believe a tourist visa would be easy for her to obtain.

Now if there is a long term relationship involved; you are paying the bills; you have employment here that you plan to return to or other such things it may be possible. The more information you can provide the better the experts can answer you. I am no expert but with enough information those with better knowledge will try to help you I am sure.

Just give us some more info james, lopburi is spot on in his comment, proove the need to return to LOS it's vital.
