The admin and Immigration office in Nong Khai have decided to stop answering questions about the details of Immigration Law

"We, the admins, and the involved officers at Nong Khai Immigration yesterday made a decision:

We will no longer answer question which clearly only have the purpose of getting to know how far the rules can be bended. It's changing this board into a discussion board and taking the focus of the original idea."

As is pointed out in one of the posts in that thread, the questions arise because the rules/laws are not applied equally across the board.

There is far too much discretion applied, so that two Immigration offices can be applying two opposite approaches.

A two cases in point are the different policies in Nong Khai and Phuket,

and Nong Khai denying knowledge of the Financial checks imposed at Mae Sai, as a result of a MFA notice.

Is it any wonder we have to ask detailed questions??

Transparency is what is needed.

Perhaps it is best if they do stop trying to answer questions as no information is better than misinformation.

The site is a joke.. Despite thier continued claims that they are the official Nong Khai immigration forum they have never backed up any statements or positions with an officers name.

So far I have seen them say :-

There is no 3 million investment scheme... Er hold on... OK yeah there is...

There is no problem getting multiple tourist visa's... Er tell that to Vientianne or Phom Phen or Singapore.

There will be no cash requirement at borders.. Bank books and ATM slips will be needed but NOT cash... Er OK then...

They are now saying that there is a radical change in issueing of visa extensions to both visa on arrivals and 60 doy tourist visa's.. Checking my local office yesterday they tell me nothing has changed and its still 30 day for a tourist visa and 10 - 14 days for a visa on arrival.

You may notice that the immigration web board keeps distancing themselves from the Thai immigration forums and do not claim any connection or official status.

Close down the site. The information is worthless in any case.

that's what i was trying to say at another thread, the site might have some kind of semi offical status becuase of a link from the official police site, but it is NOT maintained by Immigration but by a few farangs. now figure what the info there is worth after reading through the posts there.

cheers

The do make it confusing...

If you go to NongKhaimmigration.com (hosted on police.gov.th servers and listed as official by imm3) and click the english language link next to the flag you end up at ThaiImmigration.com... Easy to assume you are dealing with the english language version of a sanctioned site.

The (miss)information they have presented there though is essentially worthless.

Also Just found this...

Welcome to The Royal Thai Immigration Nong Khai’s official web site and web board. This site and web board has been established by the Immigration Authorities in Nong Khai in an attempt to make it easier for foreigners to stay in the Kingdom by providing answers to questions about visas and extensions, required documentation etc., and/or to help people with problems they might have in this regard. We do hope it can be of great help to many people.

A Sub-Committee under Nong Khai Immigration Office administrates the site and the board, and all answers you get here from the Admin or any of the Moderators will be according to the official rules, regulations, and the Thai Immigration Law.

It is not a discussion board, but besides questions about visas, and other related topics of the services provided by the Immigration Authorities of Thailand, you are most welcome to post comments on and/or suggestions about the work of the Immigration Office in Nong Khai.

Please keep in mind that we, the Immigration Authorities in Nong Khai, can’t change the law or ruling regulations. That is up to the politicians. So, remarks about how irritating you might find the “90 days address confirmation rule” has little meaning here. Please email to the lawmakers of Thailand about such subjects. They are the ones who can change them, the local Immigration Officers can't.

Also please help us keep this place clean and nice by using a polite language, thanks.

Welcome onboard.

Superintendent of Nong Khai Immigration

I mean what is someone to assume.

That it is probably a site under the auspices of a Thai Immigration Office. One would be brave ( or stupid ) to impersonate a senior police officer.
