Drive To Samet

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am driving to Ko Samet this evening and am trying to figure out the fastest route. Unfortunately the map that I have is fairly old. From my house it is easy to get onto route 7 (Rama 9 expressway towards Srinakarin) so I would prefer to take this road out of Bangkok. However on my map route 7 just stops in the middle of nowhere, so I would like to know if this road now connects directly with route 3?

Is this the best route? or would it be worth sitting in the Sukhumvit traffic to get straight onto route 3 from Bangkok?

Cheers!

This might help sorry i dont know the road you are refering to!

Thanks for that FunFun. By the look of the map it appears that the Route 7 now goes all the way to the Rayong junction (36). That would be much better, can anyyone confirm this?

Thanks!

Basically, yes. The bottom end of highway seven is not "motorway" though.

After you exit the last toll plaza and come to the end of the motorway, you will need to follow the signs for Pattaya (Not Bang Saen / Chonburi) to the Rayong (36) junction.

Depending on when you travel and the amount of traffic (Holiday, Friday night, Saturday morning), if there are a lot of cars on the motorway, traffic can be hellacious when you get to the lower part of highway 7 which is under construction in many places. There are some alternatives.

You can take the very first exit after the last toll plaza to Klaeng (344) to highway 331 south, and then hook back up with 36 to Ban Phe. This route is excellent: a few more kilometers, but it can save hours if the traffic is heavy going to Pattaya.

I understand that you are looking for the fastest way, but if you are not in a hurry another option is to stay on 344 all the way to Klaeng, and then turn south on #3 to Ban Phe. Or - this makes a nice afternoon drive on the way back from Samed.

I would think the biggest problem you have is driving to kho samet.hope your car is waterproof lol. :o
