ICT offers free computer programme to block obscene websites

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Ministry is offering the public a free computer programme entitled, "Housekeeper 2008", to block obscene websites at no charge, aimed at protecting young people from online dangers.

Developed by the ICT ministry and King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, "Housekeeper 2008" can be downloaded at www.icthousekeeper.com and www.mict.go.th.

ICT minister Mun Pattanothai on Friday presided over a ceremony to give 20,000 sets of the Housekeeper

programme to parents, educational institutions, other agencies, and the public.

The ministry aims to prevent young people aged between 8-16 years from accessing improper information online and to raise awareness among the public regarding how harmful the Internet can be.

The programme function also helps control the duration of Internet usage and limit the time spent playing games overall. Profiles can be created for the individual user, according to age and subjects.

The ministry expected that there will be 100,000 persons downloading the programme in 2008.

ICT permanent secretary Sue Lo-Uthai said that there were 8.42 million internet users in Thailand or 12.70 per cent of the country's population.

The ratio of Thai internet users is 2.1 times that the Asia Pacific region or ten per cent of that in Asia. The number of internet users in Thailand has increased by 266.1 per cent in the past five years.

Maybe a 266.1% international bandwidth increase would be an idea?

Then this new program has actually something to do!

2107% increase in bandwidth over the past 5 years in Thailand :o you'd be surprised haha..

I think MICT is trying to stir up this feeling for parents that the internet is dangerous, etc.

I already have this service .... it's called a Internet Service Provider ... :o
