This editorial from today's Post hits the nail right on the head...............

Police tactics so out of date

If police really wished to display some initiative they would spend the next week in the run-up to Songkran devising effective, new ways to stop inebriated celebrants from killing themselves and others in moments of madness on the highways.

But with the great escape from the city just days away, other matters are claiming their attention. Among these are government-ordered crackdowns on illegal drugs, rogue airport taxis, bars not closing on time, imposters dressing in camouflage fatigues, wearers of tank-tops behaving badly, those smoking in prohibited areas, optical media and software copyright violators and North Korean asylum-seekers sneaking into the country. Presumably, the police are excused from participating in the Health Ministry's new war on rats.

Certainly does. This bit says it all:

The 15-day or 90-day crackdowns so frequently ordered by cabinet ministers are little more than pointless public relations exercises
