Snake Identification

Featured Replies

Sorry about the headless snake shot,

My girl kept on telling me mai dee & chopped the head off when I was writing this. I am in Bang Sare- Sattahib area & spotted this little guy cruising on the patio. It looks similar to the checkered keelback, except the markings are not the same unless it is different as a juvenile. It was pretty feisty when I pinned it under a jug of water. The markings on the head were the same.

It looked harmless & I hate killing anything unless it is a true threat in the garden or woods behind the house. My girl DEATH TO ALL SNAKES!

Hard to tell, how big was it?

Russell's Viper? (did you get a look at the head?)

The snake was tiny 6" at best. The jaws fully opened maybe 1" no fluid spit out & it looked fangless. I would have thought it was a garter snake if I was in the U.S. The snake was cylindrical & not shiny. The head was proportional to the snakes body & not like a pit viper shape at all. I was kinda bummed I didn't let it go. Alisa thought for sure it was very dangerous & wasted it!

After viewing the Russell's viper i could tell it was definitely not one of those(Thank God way to trusting as she was warning me of water spitting in my eye.)
