I run it under WinXP...I was assuming that the plug-in works also under Linux, if not, my apologies!

I am also using Firefox with Ubuntu. Although I do not have a BKK Bank internet account (yet) to test it out, I am very interested in knowing if the ¨user agent switcher¨ Firefox plug in that Monty talked about in post #2 would work in fooling the BKK bank web site into believing that I was using IE.

yes it does and it was as easy as Monty said! :o

I didn´t think it would be that easy. I´ve always had trouble with the BKK bank FX exchange rate web page working right for me. Anytime I tried to use the Historical FX Rates drop down boxes for date, month and year, they would disappear, and have never been able to get anything except the current rates. Using the user agent switcher didn´t change a thing. I have checked with sites such as ¨what is my IP address¨ which does say that I am using IE7, so I know the switcher is working.

Raro, my understanding of User Agent Switching is that you actually fire up IE from within Firefox.

That is correct. It is running the IE engine and FF is just the interface at that point.

no, you are confusing two different things:

1 - the IE plug-in - it runs IE inside Firefox, only works on windows, and is a "real" IE

2 - the user agent switcher plug-in - this tells websites that you are using IE, but is in reality using Firefox. why would you want to do that? same reason you used a fake id to get into bars when you were under-age: to get in. many badly written websites check the user agent and tell you to use IE if they find you are using anything else - even though Firefox might work just as well. for these, you use the user agent switcher, and pretend to be a bona fide IE for a moment. this works on any operating system. Firefox basically just lies about its identity.

2 - the user agent switcher plug-in - this tells websites that you are using IE, but is in reality using Firefox.

Thanks for that clarification.
