Regarding getting a work permit and having to show your orignal degrees with your transcripts:

Because I was the first female to graduate from college, my mother without my permission, took my undergraduate degree when I graduated from college back in the 70's and had it perma plaqued- put on wood and they put a varnish seal over it. The finished product is about 16" x 24" and at least half an inch thick. Would color xerox copies along with digital pictures of the original (plaque) and my original masters degree be sufficient? I hid my masters so that did not get plaqued! I can't imagine lugging this monstrosity with me to Thailand but if I need to I will.

I appreciate that the 70's was a while ago, but is it possible for your university to give you another certificate?

Some people have run into problems attempting to get a Master's degree alone accepted for purposes of a work permit, etc. Whether or not a photocopy of the Bachelor's degree diploma in support of the Master's degree will suffice can be problematic. I have personally experienced a government officer wanting to actually examine all the degree diplomas and feel the raised seals. In fact, he told me that was what he was doing, as I was getting concerned thinking he had some sort of strange paper fetish. :o

My suggestion would be that you obtain a duplicate undergrad diploma and thus negate this as a potential problem down the road in this or some other nation. Good luck!

I lost my original degree certificate years ago, and mail-ordered a new one for maybe $45. It even carries the revised name of the university. However, I shall never permaplaque it. :o

If you can get your college to issue the "original" transcript (for British there is only one, so this gets confusing) that should show you graduated with the same requisite degree. I would submit that (in its sealed envelope and all) along with a photocopy of the degree certificate.
