Increase in food poisoning in 2023 to 2024 - supporting statistics?
“There is no way to know since most cases of food poisoning are not treated at government hospitals “ Stats are usually commissioned and gathered from more than one source – for instance insurance companies and are commissioned by various bodies - .e.g. - Ministry of Public Health, many Hospitals and Health Facilities e.g. - Public and private hospitals, clinics, and other health facilities report cases of food poisoning they treat, contributing to the data collected by the MoPH and its associated bodies. Also Thai Food and Drug Administration (Thai FDA), Bureau of Epidemiology, Provincial Health Offices, WHO, “those statistics do nto s[earate out food poisoning from other types of gastroenterisits” As the reports I am seeing are largely from laypersons, it doesn’t really matter if it is food poisoning or types of gastroenteritis as bacterial, viral and parasitic may be the causes – but if there is an increase in anything then the public need to be aware “increased numbers of tourists alone could account for this” – But you miss the point – the numbers are in fact LOWER than before Covid, they are concentrated into smaller areas, but the rise – if there is one – would an increase per unit over previous figures. I have already considered the “mass-histeria” effect of social media which is why I’d like to see statistics rather than just guess “Food poisoning cases here follow seasonal trends and always increase in the very hot season, for obvious reasons (food spoils more quickl” – you seem to miss the point – the effects of climate in Thailand have been the same for decades – what I’m trying to find out is if there has been a CHANGE in th circumstances. It also may not be just tourists, it could be the population in general cause by the industrialisation, transportation and processing within the food industry. -

Fake News Debunked: Koh Kut Tensions with Cambodia Falsified
The Thai government has swiftly debunked rumours of military clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces on Koh Kut. Despite alarmist reports, authorities assure that the island remains a vibrant tourist destination, unaffected by misinformation. Jirayu Houngsub, adviser to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, confirms visitor growth is robust, surpassing previous years. The rumours coincided with renewed talks on the contentious 2001 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cambodia, concerning oil and gas development in the Gulf of Thailand. Critics argue this agreement might cede Thai territory, fuelling misinformation. Addressing allegations, Jirayu clarified no military build-up or Cambodian troop presence on Koh Kut, refuting any evacuation narratives. “Koh Kut continues to welcome tourists abundantly. Reports of a security crisis are untrue," he asserted. Efforts are underway to curb the spread of false information online, invoking the Computer Crime Act. Claims of widespread hotel booking cancellations are dismissed as data from the Trat Tourism Authority illustrate solid occupancy rates around 75%, even anticipating a 1% growth in tourist numbers. Supporting these reassurances, Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul plans a visit to Koh Kut, underscoring the Thai government’s commitment to maintaining peace and promoting tourism. This follows Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai’s affirmation of Thailand's sovereignty over the island, amidst discussions about revisiting the 2001 MoU. Through campaigns and official visits, the government aims to ensure clarity, reaffirming that Koh Kut remains a peaceful and thriving destination contrary to circulating falsehoods.
