Alcohol Ban Yesteday (saturday)

Featured Replies

I went to 7-11 yesterday (Saturday 19th April) to buy a beer and there were signs saying that they couldn't sell alcohol from 6 p.m. to midnight. I asked the staff, but they didn't seem to know why. So, why the ban? It's not a Buddhist holiday, and election alcohol bans last longer than 6 hours.

For what it's worth, this was in Ayutthaya province - perhaps other places were unaffected.

Any explanation greatly appreciated.

(And yes, I was able to get alcohol at a small local shop, so I didn't suffer too much.)

Plenty of alcohol flowing on Sukhumvit last night.

There was a local election here in Nan province yesterday and the restaurant I was in wasn't allowed to serve alcohol last night, even though the polls had closed. Maybe same in Ayutthaya?

There was one in Phuket at the weekend, strictly enforced. What a joke in a tourist resort, Saturday night and like a ghost town in Karon and Kata, didn't bother going to Patong as had been told the same there. Really doesn't make much sense in the resorts.

Was the same here in Nakhonsawan last week for some local election. No probs when you know where to take your bottle :o
