Sophon Cable: A Review

Featured Replies

First the good news;

unlike many "professional" cable packages in "The West"

they actually vary their movies -showing films from good to bad but often

ones that may have never made it to local theatres...

The Bad News is : umm...well, I didnt realize how badly scratched and

beat up DVDs (and VCDs) could get :o Please Please PREVIEW the movies

you intend to show - maybe as mucch as 50% are simply unwatchable due

to damage...

Sidenote: when Blu-ray gets popular we will see much less of this as all

blu-ray movies have a protective jacket.

With the (lack of) picture quality present where I've seen it they might as well show VCR tapes. :o

I thought they were VCR tapes and the quality of sound is so poor sometimes that I just give up!

I think Sophon is, like Tony the Tiger says, GGGGGRRRRREAT!!

I am primarily a news and current affairs junkie and I get a great selection of such channels from around the world for about US$ 10 per month with Sophon. With channels llike BBC, ABC, CNN, Fox (faux news), Bloomberg, Channel News Asia, El Jazerra, Deutsch Wella, China News, NBK (Japanese), and let's not forget Pattaya People News and Pattaya City News channels, I'm a happy camper.

I don't give a squat about their movies or sports. Got my own 700 movie DVD collection (originals too) :o

And you think they care?

If it can be copied - it will be shown.

They have got a lot better over the past few years (the change from VCD to DVD) - I remember once watching 5 minutes of a porn film that slipped onto their broadcast feed and another occasion where the first disc of a two part VCD movie was played twice in a row.

Yes scratched and bad copies of movie discs are used IMHO Sophon is much better than BTV.

I agree with the above poster, however I prefer to watch the Japanese television channel NHK rather than the National Bank of Kuwait channel. :o

Now 700 movies! I am impressed; I thought I was a DVD addict but it seems you have got movie-fever bad.

Plus don't forget the Cricket! All India test matches are shown live, with 50% English, the 50% Hindi commentary. :D

No I don't think they care..or if they do they don't have the budget for new DVDs.

And let's not forget the wonder of bittorrent for downloading movies or music.

If you have decent internet connection that's the way to go...

Same addiction here. BTW, it's CNN Headline News (with sexy Robin Mead and mad Glenn Beck) we're getting, not CNN International. And add French TV5 to the mix if you speak French. And the Russian channel if you're from Moscow!
