How does a small language center with a handful of farang teachers legally manage to get work permits for its employees?

Looking at the rules, none of the options seems feasible:

• Capital of 2 million Baht per teacher?
  
• 5 million Baht taxes per teacher per year?
  
• 50 Thai workers for each foreigner?
  

No way.

So, how can it legally be done?

Ummm. From the Thaivisa main website - in the Work Permit section. I hope it's a reliable source.

Taxes are no where near the 5m baht.

My total costs p/mth for taxes mine & 4 staff plus accountant fees are just over 10,000 baht.

There are requirements that for each work permit (2 m baht paid up capital) 4 Thai nationals are required to be employed.

The post is out of context and very misleading - below is the wording on website. They are several of the alternative options to the 2m capital requirement.

For every 5,000,000 Baht tax payment is allowed to hire 1 expatriate.

An establishment is allowed to hire 1 expatriate for every 50 Thai employees but not more than 5 expatriates in total.

The question remains whether language centers hire lots of illegal teachers without work permits. They also have a limit on the number of work permits based on the number of classrooms they have in the center. So I understand.

It relates to my question in the Teaching Forum. As poster wangsuda just pointed out, it is almost impossible for a new teacher to get legal here, now. I could say more, but I know who reads ThaiVisa.

I'm sorry you feel my post was misleading. It wasn't meant to be.

To explain my circumstances: a friend of mine wants to set up his own language centre, and I offered to help with a bit of investigation on the work permit front. (He wants all his teachers to be legal.)

After checking the Work Permit section on Thaivisa I couldn't see any category that would match the requirements of a teacher at a language centre employing only farang teachers.

Does anyone know what the criteria are for getting work permits for teachers in these circumstances, please?
