0 The Fool

(AKA The Newbie, Fresh Off The Boat)

The Image

The Fool, as traditionally pictured, is a young man stepping off a precipice with his worldly belongings slung over his shoulder and his faithful dog in tow.

In the Thaivisa deck, he is more mature. His worldly belongings are in a modern backpack rather than a kerchief. He stares confidently off into space as he prepares to step off the cliff into the black but starry void.

In the background are translucent, ethereal images of buildings, homes, people, successes, and tragedies from his past life, all of which are fading into insubstantiality as he takes the plunge.

He has no dog, but brings friends and family in his wake. Faithful and loyal, they are also completely clueless about what lies ahead and are dressed as tourists.

The Interpretation

Although the title of the card sounds pejorative, it is neutral with a positive tinge. The questioner is entering new and unknown elements. He is unproven in this new situation, and it remains up to him to exercise his potential and develop, or wither and fail. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. A new chance, a reinvention.

To be the Fool, the questioner must give up elements in his background. He is not a tourist, and is taking the plunge. It is his role to stumble, and the void is not his antagonist but the darkness of his ignorance. Some sources of enlightenment are available, not least of all Thaivisa (which is one of the stars). But which direction will he go, and how will he fare?

The 'Fool' is an important card.

The fact that it is "0" suggests a 'negative' when compared to the 'Tree of Life'.

0.

Know naught!

All ways are lawful to innocence.

Pure folly is the key to initiation.

Silence breaks into rapture.

Be neither man nor woman, but both in one.

Be silent, babe in the egg of blue, that thou

Mayest grow to bear the lance and graal!

Wander alone, and sing! in the kings palace

His daughter awaits thee.

Or just maybe, the way I have just turned my WORLD Tarot Card ......

Maybe because of their success, the Querent is about to become a teacher, a Sensei, if you will. Revered for their expertise.

And maybe, because of this, they're going to be offered a job or trip to some amazing place. They're asked to lecture in a remote city in India, spend a month at the North Pole, teach on board a boat sailing round the globe. No boring little trip for this person, no sir! Luckily for them, the World card indicates that they'll feel comfortable and welcome no matter where they go. The World card indicates a person who owns nothing, because everything is theirs. No place is their home because every place is their home. It's all one, all complete.
