i know for a fact it happens

i know someone who was drugged and robbed at Gulliver's at kao san road

watch your drinks!!!

also i know more than one person who was held at Thai night club(s) and made to take a drug pee test by the police

the police may do anything to find a 'false' positive

however i have never heard of it happening at a farang club

these things really do happen

just keep your wits about you

and enjoy

Some people have all the luck. I can't even get my doctor to drug me! Of course, it's a good idea to not carry much money with you.

Getting "slipped a mickey" does happen. I had a Swedish guy relate to me a story about visiting

Khao-san. Some girls approached him with the premise of befriending the fellow, one of them

stuck a straw in his beer bottle and from there he woke up in some strange place with nothing

but his clothes left. Makes me leery about drinking from bottles I haven't seem opened. :o

I have to admit I have the occasional nightmare about the false positive by the police. I've never been pee tested, but I still have ocassional paranoid anxiety about it.

If the police decide to stitch you up, what could you do?

And what if someone slips some yah baa in your drink before the police turn up so you'll get caught. You couldn't even then get an independent test to prove your innocence. I may be being paranoid, but I wouldn't put it past the mafia in brown to send a girl in to do that to the guys who look well off.

The vast majority of people who think they've been 'drugged' have just had too much to drink. Not that its never happened, but in the vast majority of cases its just alcohol. A UK study of 75 women claiming to have been drugged with spiked drinks, found nothing other than alcohol after testing.

It just doesn't add up - Why go to all the trouble of drugging some guy to rob him? And why involve anyone else to take a share of the proceeds of your crime?

The evidence on the ground is that the 'big money' is not robbed with the aid of drugs, but willingly handed over.

You don't need drugs to addle a man's brain when he's already stopped using it to think with.... 'lip-stick' applied to the 'wee head' is clearly far more effective - though I'm sure it often demands a strong stomach on the part of the perp.

I take you point , DP25 , and it is sometimes easier the next morning for a woman to think she was drugged and not drunk and horny!

I have lived here in Thailand , for 5 years full time but I did have an interesting experience in 2002 on my first trip.

I was staying with an English lady friend just off sukhumvit soi 5-7 aria and we headed off for a drink at the beer garden there .

As we walked out of the hotel , my friend started a conversation with our 'Kattoy' room maid and I said I would meet her in the bar.

As I entered the beer garden I saw her walking up the soi behind me so as I sat down I ordered a gin and tonic for her while I decided which local beer to try.

As the drink was presented , she sat next to me and I ordered a beer for myself. The bar person had a strange look on there face I noted at the time.

We had the one drink and headed off to find a restaurant and look round the aria.

After about 20-30 minuets my lady friend became increasingly vocal( the opposite of what I might expect) and was acting in a most peculiar manner. She seemed really drunk. She also became increasingly incoherent and I ended up taking her back to our room.

For the next hour or so she just didn't know what she was doing or where she was . At one point she seemed to think she was in one of the Patpong bars we had read about and was watching the 'show'.She got some very interesting idea's as well , but I was too much of a gentleman to take advantage. :o

She went to the toilet and fell down between it and the door . I had to put her back in bed.

I put her in the safe recovery position and checked her all night .

She slept for 10 hours and had no recollection of the night before after leaving the beer garden.

Usually , when a lone fallang goes there he is intending to pick up a bar girl. I think the drinks server put something in 'my' drink and looked shocked when she drank it. I would suspect it was in fact a barbituate from it's reaction with alcohol.

The story is true, I assure you !

My personal view is that the pee tests are intended for deterrence and to allow for shakedowns.

Utter utter nonsense. If you knew anything about the beergarden on soi 7 you would know that there is absolutely nothing to gain my one of the serving staff trying to drug a customer.

Why do we have to listen to such bullshit peddled as fact?

I'd agree with this. Much better to have the girl drug you in the room than risk having to deal with a drugged and unpredictable customer in the bar itself.

I merely present the facts as they happened . Iam not in the habit of lying . Why should I , people with big mouths and a clique of friends here are nothing to me or anybody else in the real world!

There are some decent people here though and that is why I do post occasionally.

As I was there and you were not then I suggest you moderate your tone , chap, as your ego seems to be tripping you up.

I refer you now to 'Jim' who has owned Thai house for countless years and might be considered more of a reliable reference , as he advised me at the time, than a person who dismisses something out of hand as they "Know' much more than anyone about Bangkok, Thailand and indeed , everything else in the world. ( are you one of those poor English teachers , by the way)? You certainly sound like one!

May I suggest you put your ego away, your brain in gear , and stop putting your foot in your mouth when it might better be applied at the other end of your anatomy!

You arrogant nobody!!!

True.

Just go Q-Bar or Bed Supper Club.

Frequently raided by the Police.

You line up, waiting for your turn to deliver the sample, and they use the same test kit over and over again!

So the test kit isn't doing anything? Yet they announce about how many people were caught testing positive! Although I always thought it was funny how they only ever caught Thais testing positive when I know for a fact that many of the farang in these places should be testing positive for stimulants.

Bendix, your not being very nice!!

Drugging does happen, although I think it is a lot less than it was about 10-15 years ago. First of all, a lot of the drugs are more difficult to get than they were. You could buy valium over-the-counter as well as quite a few other drugs. A few drinks and a few mg of these would assure that some foolish gentleman slept soundly while the entertainment for the night walks off with the contents of the wallet.

Drugging people is tricky--different people react quite differently. This unpredictability makes it not the best method for carrying out a crime. Secondly, it takes planning and this isn't an operative word in Thailand!

You can still buy valium over the counter in many chemists in Bangkok (as well as most of the touristy islands) -- more so than a couple of years ago (I'm led to believe). Dosage is the problem (I'm led to believe). 3mg and a few beers may do the trick for some (I'm led to believe), others are still fairly alert after 100mg+ and many beers, if prone to becoming a little dribbly and silly (so I'm told). Some would say that if you don't notice 100mg valium being slipped in your drink then you're not really concentrating ...

And Bendix does have a point. I've lost count (okay, it may only be three or four) of the number of friends I've seen arrive in Bangkok from a frigid London, not properly hydrate, then drink far too many Changs (sans ice) and simply fade away, remembering nothing the next morning (including how much money they've spent/dropped).

i know a place in the country, can get 5 mg generic Valium for 1 baht each

stronger than 10 mg blue ones in BKK for 10 baht

but not to be taken everyday!!!

hoping not to upset anyone on this board with this topic

but i have never seen Rohypnol anywhere

no doubt the date rape drug originally designed for serious insomniacs

out of curiosity only :o

where are they obtained?

how can the sleazy element get them when you and i can't :D

MarkBkk: I am just having a little a little go at Bendix. There is no doubt far more people who say or think they have been drugged than who actually have. That said, it's always wise to be alert. I know there were places where you could get valium, but (as someone who does like the stuff), I can't find them anymore!! I also know that if you go out of Bangkok there are some places, but this is not easy access.

Another problem is that valium has a rather horrible taste to it, so I don't know if it would be easy to drug people and, as was previously noted, the effect is unpredictable. valium and beer doesn't have an adverse affect on me, but I would never mix the two, except on a long haul flights where a good sleep is the most I would get. Even then, it doesn't really have that big of an effect. Outside of an airplane, I wouldn't trust myself because I don't know about how good my judgement would be.
