Pattaya's Mayoral Elections

Featured Replies

After just 90 minutes of vote counting for Pattaya's new mayor, candidate number 2 Khun Itipon has more than double the number of votes of candidate number 3 Khun Surat. Candidate number 1 Khun Allissa is running third.

If this trend continues it seems certain Pattaya's new mayor will be Khun Itipon, the youngest son of Kamnan Poh, easily defeating Khun Surat of Mikes Department stores, with Khun Allisa, whose family is associated with Tiffany's, running third.

Not surprising.

Another son of Kamnan Poh won the Chonburi POA election las week.

After all the hassle poor dad has to go through, what with all the hiding and being convicted of masterminding the murder of a political opponent etc., at least the sons are getting their place under the sun!

So no change for Pattaya, sad in my opinion as I believe K Surat would have been good for Pattaya rather than good for just his family. However if the results are as stated it is not suprising.

I was hoping for a woman mayor. As a Thai lady said to me "men don't see dirt".

Sad news but ... every people get the government they deserve ... (or something like that)

Sriracha John's favorite family rises again to keep their shadow over the area.

I hoped that the national election results were a sign of thing to come, but alas they were just a blip on the radar of recent history.

Does anyone know the final result? I googled it and can find no reference to the vote count.

maybe they are still busy with putting Khun Alissa's votes in the shredder... :o

Kamnan Poh's son wins Pattaya poll

Itthipol Khunpluem yesterday appeared to have succeeded in defending his family turf as unofficial results showed him topping the mayoral election in Pattaya and beating his two rivals by thousands of votes. A new group also filled the most seats in the Pattaya city council.

Unofficial results showed that Mr Itthipol beat Surat Mekawarakul, who had the support of the Democrat party, and Alisa Phanthusak, by a convincing margin in a three-horse race.

Mr Itthipol is the youngest son of Somchai Khunpluem, or Kamnan Poh, an influential figure in Chon Buri, and the youngest brother of veteran politician Sonthaya, former tourism and sports minister.

There were 85 polling stations in the four constituencies of the province, with a total of 64,735 people eligible to vote in the mayoral and city council elections.

Voter turnout was over 50%.
