Rear Fog Lights

Featured Replies

Is it just me, or are there more people nowadays (in Bankgers, anyway) driving with their rear foglights on? I have noticed that at least half of them are in the new Toyota Vios.

Now this could be that Toyota has hidden the switch or it could be that the drivers are too stupid to know thy're on or too ignorant to realise the danger and inconvenience to other road users, and turn them on deliberately.

Off you go, guys. Have you noticed and what do you think?

it seems that they use only one switch for the front and back fog lights.

Yes, i mentioned in another thread the unnecessary and annoying use of front fog lights in Thailand. I think it's a vanity thing - the driver, usually a guy, thinks it improves the look of the car. Of course the same thing happens in the UK, but there the driver stands a chance of being pulled over by the plod, as it is an offence, in both senses of the word, not to mention dangerous!

Foglights in Thailand....in Bangkok.....for "fogwits".

You sure it wasn't a Smog Light they had on?

I have noticed... becuse we have a new VIOS.

The switch is not hidden, it is a rotating switch "inboard" on the same control stalk as the headlight switch. They are interconnected, in that you can not turn on the foglights unless the headlights are on, and the foglights get turned off when you turn the headlights off.

Furthermore, there is an idiot light on the instrument cluster showing when the foglights are on, so although it is possible, I think it would be really difficult to inadvertantly or unknowingly turn them on.

This is correct - the switch above does control both front and rear foglights, but only the top-end models (G,S) have the front foglights. All models (J,E,G,S) have the rear lights.

Ours is an E model, which didn't come with front lights, but we negotiated to have them added when we bought the car. The wiring harness has the connections behind the original plastic covers.

I do use them- they are helpful when driving on an unfamiliar and dark country road at night, or in heavy downpours when visibility is limited. However, I sure don't ride around with them on all the time like a poser!

Absolutely infuriating as they have virtually no place on THai roads...they are for use in poor visibility caused by FOG - which is just about non-existent here.......in rain they break up and dazzle people behind and can be confused for brake lights, which is potentially very dangerous.
