I am an American over 50 years of age and married to a Thai citizen.

I secured a non-immigrant marriage visa in March, 2008 with an expiration stamp dated February, 2009. I also obtained a multi-entry stamp. I left Thailand in March and plan to return in late May. I just now noticed in my passport a statement that I am required to report my current address to immigraion no later than May 12, 2008. I have not returned to Thailand since leaving in March.

My question: Is the 90 day requirment to report my residence location in Thailand tolled while I am out of the country? If so, upon returning when am I requred to report my current address?

The report is required after 90 CONSECUTIVE days in the country. If you leave, you will again start at 1 when you return.

Actually you seem to have a one year extension of stay on the basis of family and a multi re-entry permit.

90 days reports are only required if you staill in Thailand for a period of 90 days without leaving. The count starts at 1 on each entry into Thailand.

Which brings me to a question- I just read in "PattayaToday", in an advice column, that if one has been reporting his address every 90 days and then leaves the country and is out of the country on the "appointed" address report date, then returns *without* going to immmigration within a couple of days or so of returning to get a revised appointment date, that that person may be fined. The article just said something like failure to report to imm. and get a new report date "may result in a fine". The writer said that this was a common misunderstanding; that the new count wasn't simply automatic, that, essentially, you had to let them know that the reporting schedule needed to be revised.

Can anyone shed more light on this? The column is authored by one of the visa/imm consultant companies in Pattaya.

I may be in this situation before too long. (So far I've been exiting the country within every 90 day period- more fun than doing the report, if more expensive. This may soon change for me, though.)

If a foreigner leaves the country and re-enters, the day count starts at 1 in every case.

For details contact 0-2285-5142, 0-2287-3101-10 ext.2262, 2263

Above is from Immigration Web Site (official). It is automatic.

Can only go on my personal experience being in and out of Thailand all the time...have never had to get a revised appointment date if not in country on that date or have never been fined after turning up at immigration for the next 90 days reporting after my arrival back in country....

This is not correct.

When you arrive in Thailand you fill in the form at that airport.

Your intended address is one of the pieces of info on the form. :o

That is all the reporting you need to do.

All these forms are entered on the Immigration computer.

However if you move from one area to another you are required to report your new

address to Immigration, or the local police station

AND your new landlord is also required to report your arrival.
