I would have thought that the supposedly "Richest Team in England" could have made a better appointment as manager, why did they not try and get Paul Ince for example?, they could have even afforded "Big Sam" :D

Still you won't find me complaining :o

Football management, it's not rocket science though maybe that's why Iain Dowie struggles with it. :D

Not sure that everyone will see the irony here, keddy. Doesn't Dowie have some kind of academic degree in rocket science, nuclear physics or similar ?

Not much to be impressed by him in sports (football) science though. :o

  • Dowie has a Masters degree in mechanical engineering, which he believes helps him to be logical and analytical in his approach to football management.
  • Dowie gives credit for his success at Crystal Palace to his brother and director of football Bob, and John Harbin, the Australian fitness coach Dowie met while manager of Oldham.
  • Dowie has broken his nose 25 times[13]

C&P Interesting facts from wikipedia but although few people knew about the degree, everyone else could see that he has broken his nose 25 times :D

Breaking mine once was enough, 25 times must be painful :D

This appointment was a surprise tbh. Relative success at Palace plus keeping Oldham competative whilst in admin etc is makes for good reading on his CV. Charlton was a part of his carear to forget followed by a struggle again at Coventry. It will be interesting how he will fare with cash to splash.

Well at least he can fix the team coach if it breaks down. B) However I think it's quite a shrewd move, apparently the players wanted his appointment, he knows this league pretty well, he's great at the PR side of management and he has a lot of bouncebackability - a word he invented and is now in some dictionaries. As for breaking his nose 25 times the man should have learnt to head a ball properly. :D

From a Charlton blog. :o

"Big blow for Super Hoops

They may have a large wedge, but the hopes of Queens Park Rangers of regaining top flight status took a heavy blow when it was announced they had signed Iain Dowie as their manager.

'It's not rocket science,' a Loftus Road spokesperson explained. 'You take a reasonably successful, ambitious club, bring in Dowie (and, if possible, his brother) and, hey presto, the club is on its knees. It's worked at the Glaziers, Charlton and the Sky Blues, so why shouldn't it work here?' "
