nikster
Reporting awfully slow speeds via CAT - however, it's awfully slow even to ThaiVisa. Thanks for posting this, I can also now enjoy the rest of the evening without pulling my hair and wondering whether I had been singled out as an unwanted customer for excessive bittorrenting. Internet addiction is a terrible thing.. ps: I also watched it break down sometime around 16:00... Edited May 18, 2008 by nikster

monty
Same here on CAT. Looks like the main link to the USA is completely down, pretty much all US bound traffic is routed over France! Routing to Thaivisa (Singapore) looks normal, but is probably slow as well due to increased traffic with all the re-routing...
monty
Everything goes through here now: inetnum: 193.251.240.0 - 193.251.255.59netname: OPENTRANSIT-BACKBONE descr: France Telecom Long Distance descr: 61, rue des Archives, 75003 Paris country: FR With ping times of 1700 msec and more, must be seriously congested over there, probably means large chunks of Asia's traffic, not only Thai traffic, gets routed through there... monty
Hmm, there working on it, slight improvement, and getting routed to the UK now inetnum: 213.206.128.0 - 213.206.131.255netname: Sprintlink descr: Sprintlink UK country: GB admin-c: SIA15-RIPE tech-c: SIA15-RIPE status: ASSIGNED PA remarks: INFRA-AW mnt-by: SPRINTLINK-MNT source: RIPE # Filtered Strangely enough, AIS GPRS is getting along perfectly normal! Just tested at 185 kbps to the US, ping times under 500 msec. Unfortunately theri routers block tracerts, so have no clue how they're routing traffic. Guess they're not using the CAT gateway... nikster
According to my friendly CAT service, the international link aka IIG is down. ETA to fix 3h. So this is a Thai problem, not a cable somewhere. And they are doing all they can to fix it. Edit: Monty - kind of makes sense since IIG is the by far biggest, but not the only link outta Thailand. (what I was going to say was GPRS is so slow you won't notice the difference... ) The ever resilient Bit torrent is chugging along at 12KB/s over here... monty
(what I was going to say was GPRS is so slow you won't notice the difference... ) But I do notice when gprs starts outperforming my 2 mbit CAT connection Doesn't happen all that often! Quite a few ISP's have their own IIG, but only a small portin of their traffic goes through that, the majority still has to go through CAT. alibaba
We pay THB7500 a month for 1Mbps/512Kbps aDSL to use the PACNet SG gateway. However, the service only bypassed the CAT for the 1st week that we had it and ever since then their lame attempts to fix routing have just made it worse so yeh, now we as PACNet users are in the same boat. The CAT is the problem with internet in the majority of cases. Thailand is a completely oversubscribed population of users surviving on the edge of imminent packet loss by virtue of transparent proxy caching at the ISP (actually, it's probably the case that most users experience a percentage of packet loss on a constant basis). Now the technology is going to increment as GPRS/EDGE makes way for 3G but the reality is that the international transit links cannot handle the volume, have no ability to offer support for time-sensitive applications and have apparently extremely limited diversity for failover and load-balancing. It's a piece of crap and the buck stops at the CAT. Regards,
