The above site is a bit of a read, but in the long run, it might help you, this is the sort of Link Chownah would have posted if he hadnt done already,

I have spent 1000sands of bht on insecticides, weedkillers, labour to do this to try to get rid of mealy bugs infecting cassava, papaya, now banana, makua, and im pretty sure it will soon be in the rubber trees.

This problem seems to be sweeping the area around Udon Thani, its been on localtelevision advising to spray low cal [thai whiskey] mixed with a fruit juice and water onto the infected plants, alcohol is the only thing that will penetrate their barrier,

Problem is that you have to do all the spraying yourself, otherwise the beasties will only get fruit juice and water. :o

Hi Dom,

I do all the crop spraying now after watching the thai labour doing it, A drive-by shooting is slow in comparision!! How can 1 man spray 1200 plants in 4 hours with a pump type back-pack?????

Bannork,

Mr Soap Suds [Chownah] is banned forever for some comments he made on Bedlam i believe, Im not a totally organic farmer, but i do believe nature has its detterents, although in my case, slow to react.. Acording to the posted link, better soil prep would have helped, Sulphur, copper, applied in the early stages could have stopped or lessened the grief i have now.

today, i made a big fire with off-cuts from the sawmill on the farm, i cut approx 70 1 year old papaya plants infected with the bug and burnt them, on my way to the top of the farm for a rest break, i pulled over one of Sis in laws 3 year old rubber trees, sure enough in the top where new buds are growing there are mealy bugs eating the new growth,

Will post some pics tomorrow night if anybody is interested.

Hi Lickey

With this, my 500th post, I can now, at last, check out Bedlam and read the final posts of the most prolific poster to-date who has met this fate.
