With my deepest sympathies for true victims of human trafficking aside, I firmly believe that the vast majority of Thai, Korean, Chinese, Latin American, etc women who are in the sex industries in Europe, Australia, Japan, or the US are in it voluntarily and were well-aware of the situation before they signed on. In casual conversations with middle or lower-income Thais, for example, I have found that there is a prevailing belief that all Thai girls who go abroad to work will be dragged into the sex trade. True or not, this is a widespread belief. So it is hard for me to fathom that a woman who ends up in the sex industry had no idea that this is what she was doing.

Interesting to see that Thailand is attarcting a lot of the cheap trash from the UK. Only a few days ago there was an article in the Nation about two Brits being caught for paedophilia in Pattaya. Just take a lot at Nana, Sukhumvit, etc.....there are lots of cheap Brits hanging around and mind you most are not tourists...rather so called expats who are based here. I know of some who are operating Football betting rackets, some who are loan sharks, etc. Its about time that the visa regulations are tightened to weed out all these trash!

British ex-cop arrested in Bangkok on sex trafficking charges

BANGKOK: -- A former British constabulary was arrested Wednesday at an apartment house in the Suan Plu area of Bangkok for alleged involvement in the international sex trade, police said.

The flesh-trading suspect, identified as Ian Suttleworth, 42, was once a British police officer who allegedly lured an unidentified Thai woman into forced prostitution in England and Scotland.

Mr. Suttleworth had allegedly taken his prey on a zigzag trip to England, seizing her passport and forcing her to have sex on hire in many areas including London, Coventry and at least one unidentified location in Scotland.

The woman said she had borrowed Bt530,000 (about 8,500 British pounds) to cover her trip to England and that she had been told by the ex-cop that he would find her a job in a restaurant somewhere in that country.

The woman ended up in forced prostitution after she had been traded for some 28,000 pounds or Bt1.7 million to a woman pimp, only identified as Mam, at a London restaurant.

Scottish police arrested the woman procurer and rescued the Thai woman who was promptly returned to Thailand.

Mr. Suttleworth and the arrested English woman pimp were allegedly connected with nine other human-trafficking suspects arrested earlier in England and Scotland.

I am sorry but I find it satisfying when a cop or ex cop gets his just deserts, no doubt now his reputation has been called into question there will be a few appeals lodged by some of those he has helped convict over the years.

As the offense was in the uk I hope he gets extradited back to face trial, if convicted I hope its for a long time and as well as having to sign the sex offenders register I hope they take away his passport to ensure he doesnt continue where he left on on his release.

Now he comes to Thailand with a degree in directing traffic and was able to make the jump up to private investigator in a foreign country. Does he have the right visa and permits to operate this kind of a business? 42 years old and he managed to insinuate himself into a job track normally reserved for the very few that cannot qualify as English teachers because of some pesky criminal or tax warrant. Reading for a short while you will quickly find that a lot of people here on Thai Visa are quite willing to call for immediate deportation for driving after having had 3 beers. Maybe deportation for talking out of their ass would not be so welcome as punishment by this particular group, because none of them would be here any more.

If a person brings in Thai girls to work in brothels in the UK, and pays for their way there, how does he know that the girls will work in his brothel long enough to make up the money he paid to bring them to the UK? Seems like holding their passport would really be the only way.

Or even better, make sure the women themselves are happy and making money. Sure the odd case will take off, but many more will give it a good go. Don't forget the costs to get someone to Europe aren't THAT high. 50K baht should do it. An experienced sex worker will make that back the first week on the job. The main income really has to come from the brothel, not from taking some insane amount from the woman herself. Now he comes to Thailand with a degree in directing traffic and was able to make the jump up to private investigator in a foreign country. He advertises on Thai Visa for the usual bargirl checks and following people around for who knows what. Does he have the right visa and permits to operate this kind of a business? 42 years old and he managed to insinuate himself into a job track normally reserved for the very few that cannot qualify as English teachers because of some pesky criminal or tax warrant. After a few minutes on the ground working the sex tourists and with the sex trade industry the oportunity for cash in hand became the 300 pound gorilla in the room.

He may not be the mastermind of this criminal enterprise but he is involved in the facilitation of moving girls from their home country to his former country. You don't need a video or a recording to look at the circumstantial facts of this case and see it for what it is. No where does it mention that he was trying to move male Thai restaurant workers to new digs in the UK. The monies mentioned and the way the operation was carried out leaves no doubt that Mr. Shuttlecock (pun) was involved and receiving cash for his services. Anyone who says this was some kind of effort to help girls less fortunate is lying through their teeth.

I did look into my own question as to what a 42 year old traffic policeman is not still on the job. Later news reports say Shuttlecock is on a disability pension from that job. They both scam on each other. He gets her to farang land. She turns some tricks, and all's well initially. Then later, things get uncomfortable for her (not paid enough, and/or missing Thailand, and/or boyfriend hits her, whatever....) so she opts out by playing the victim. British ex-cop arrested in Bangkok on sex trafficking charges

BANGKOK: -- A former British constabulary was arrested Wednesday at an apartment house in the Suan Plu area of Bangkok for alleged involvement in the international sex trade, police said.

The flesh-trading suspect, identified as Ian Suttleworth, 42, was once a British police officer who allegedly lured an unidentified Thai woman into forced prostitution in England and Scotland.

Today, the Criminal Court acquitted Ian Shuttleworth on all charges.
