Sorry for asking so many 'dumb' questions :o

If I want to rent the 'wife's' grandmothers shop and set up an internet cafe there, what would be the possibility of getting a work permit? It would be my capital to purchase the computers, get the internet on line, pay the rent, electric, buy chairs, desks etc. in the first place.

The 'wife' would be working in the shop alongside another Thai relative who understands computers and the internet while she is shown the ropes so she could run the cafe herself in the main with me as back-up support.

I would be the one with the technical know how to build / repair / service the computers.

The capital outlay would not be large. Under 250,000 Baht

If granted a work permit is there any form of indication of this in your passport?

i dont think you should set up a internet shop unless you have all the papers done...the police are closing down a lot of them due to the news report of drugs abuse etc happening in the shop..i seem a number of shops owned by thai being closed down...unless you have the proper papers...otherwise you can end up paying a lot of coffee money

I have an internet cafe intergrated into my business, so therefore I suppose technically my work permit covers this. To get my work permit initially I had to have the 45% shares in the company, plus an initial input of around 3,000,000 baht. Also I cited my ability to speak 4 european languages to help tourists and visitors coming to Surin. After the initial application and hoards of labour office people coming to interview me at work, and watch the restaurant running ( thank God we were very busy both times they appeared) my permit is now renewed virtually automatically every year. They even contact me when it is ready for nenewal.
