I have seen many threads about not investing in Thailand or the difficulties of earning here. I know many people on the forum teach, are retired or work overseas for their daily bread. But I would be interested in finding out if anyone has started a business that is unusual or just different to the usual beer bar/pub (and thank you for them as I love watching footy in ex-pat bars).

I will start the ball rolling.

I have opened a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre here. My clientele come mainly from UK or the Middle East but we have had an ex pat client too.

Anyone else trying something new???

Just me then!

Surely there must be others doing something other than teaching, running bars and eateries, retired or working abroad!!

Yes, I am an "Undercover Customer" working for DARCOT (Drugs and Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre Ombudsman of Thailand).

When you were enjoying 'footie' in ex-pat bars, your clients were downing the drugs and alcohol.

Signed.. the one expat :o

Hi :o

I work as a simple admin, doing secretarial work and care for a bunch of computers and related stuff in the office. I also fix and build computers for private people.

Some day i am planning to relocate to Chiang Mai and will have some own shop there, either a computer repair shop or a motorbike repair shop.

Can't teach (no native English speaker, no degree) and wouldn't want to. Don't drink so - no bar. Way too young to retire. Doesn't leave me exactly many choices other than "get what comes" to put rice on the table.

Best regards.....

Cater mainly to the oil & gas sector and doing quite ok thank you very much. Even pull in quite a few guys for training from the UK (due to the close proximity of Pattaya!!!)

If you think everyone who works here teaches or owns a business you are mistaken!

I work in the conservation sector.

I know people who have set up businesses in:

Web design, support and hosting.

Recruitment

Personal Training

Consulting (business)

Corporate training

Ecological services

Golf coaching

to name a few...

Actually Doza that was the whole point of the thread. I know not everyone works in bars or teaching; I was just interested in what people do here.
