Hi All,

I was after a spot of advice, I wondered whether my Thai girlfriend would be able to come to Germany for a holiday, maybe 2-3 weeks?

Would she be able to travel without a visa as long she doesn't stay longer than 30 days?

You can fly from Phuket to Dusseldorf direct so no other countries would be entered.

Any advice appreciated! :o

Thanks

Your girlfriend will need to obtain a visit visa from the German embassy in Bangkok before travelling. There is no entry without visa for Thai nationals visiting Germany.

Scouse.

She would need a Schengen Visa. However, her chances of getting one would depend on a number of factors.

- how long have you known her?

- how do you know her?

- what does she do - work/unemployed?

- how will you support her?

etc. etc.

If you give us more details, me (or more likely, someone who knows better) can advise you how to proceed.

I got a Schengen visa for my gf for Italy, although we passed through immigration in Frankfurt (flying Lufthansa)

Thanks Guys,

So basically she will need a shcengen visa to travel for any amount of time, a simple passport isn't valid for 30 days like most places?

As for your question about how will I support her, is that really important as it's just a 2 week holiday and not a long term thing?

I've known her a year, she works in a respectable bar, not the usual type of bar so I guess that would help in obtaining the shcengen visa?

Cheers

You will need to provide evidence of your relationship - i.e. photos together, letters, emails, telephone etc. (you don't necessarily need all of these - just examples of what might be evidence)

She will also need to show that she has a reason to return to Thailand - she'll definitely need a letter from her employer stating her salary, length of employment, that she has been given leave to travel, that she will return etc. If she has land/property that would also be useful evidence.

She and you will also need to provide evidence of funds for her trip i.e. her own bank statements for last 6 months (you can't "load" her account temporarily) or your bank accounts and a statement from you that you will look after her while she is there etc. You also need to state where she will be staying, and if it's with you, evidence that you own or rent the property. (In my case we stayed with my father who wrote a letter of invitation and evidence of his place in Italy).

She will probably be required to attend an interview where she will be asked how she met you, what her intentions are in travelling to Germany etc.

I don't want to scare you off, but as you can see the process is not a simple one. However, if you want the application to be successful, it's necessary. It's worth it - my trip to Italy and Austria was wonderful! Especially seeing her reaction to Europe.

'like most places'. Where were you think of ? Thai people dont need visas for Aean countries, HK, South Africa and 4 south american countries. Apart from that, nearly everywhere else demands a visa. The countries are worried that the girl wont go home, so you will have to show WHY she will return after the trip.

If you live in Germany, the easiest way is to guarantee her by going down the local meldestelle in Germany and filliing in a form to guarantee that you are responsible for her and giving the exact dates when she will be there, bring/send it to thailand and she can use that (i used that route for my gf first visa a few years ago). It is also better if you are also there when she applies. They will also demand bank statements etc, but it does offer the best chance of success. if she or you own a house here it would also be beneficial. And if you have tickets showing you flying there and back with her - that is also good.

The form is only 3 pages. peanuts compared to the UK one !

Correct information. The wife's mother regularly travels to Germany to visit her other daughter. The process is very simple but all hinges on proof that the applicant will return home. The letter of invitation - stamped and approved in Germany is all important.
